easy el34 schematic build?

does anyone know any simple schematic builds that use class whatever, el34s and/or kt77s + pre=12ax7s (i think the kt77s and the el34s use the same everything, if i'm not mistaken

)
somewhere around a 30-15 watts design that would be easy enough as a beginner and that would be easy to mod as well as i go through.

i'm definitely not modding my mesa nomad 100 EVER. and i have no money cause i just got it and i got 920 sucked out of me (all i did have) but it as 100% worth it, best guitar amp i've heard. so at this point it's still planning.

also i need a suggestion for the chassis as i might be building a head or a combo. i don't know yet. i'll probably just buy a 4x10 or a 2x12 or a 4x12 or a 1x12 cab with my choice of speakers stock so i don't have to spend a lot of money on replacing the speakers. if i could get a choice of grille and tolex on the combo that would be really cool too!

for the chassis i'd like to have A LOT of space to work incase extra knobs and what not are needed

Re: easy el34 schematic build?

Bro Im gonna be completely honest...based on the way your worded your first post I think you might want to read up ALOT on tube amps before you gon full blown into a homebrew build or even a kit for that matter...this is NOT a slam but while building an amp is not rocket science it's not just something you run out and do with no background.

Re: easy el34 schematic build?

i realize that, i'm going to do A LOT of studie and probably take some sort of high school class before i do this

Re: easy el34 schematic build?

I don't know of a single High School class that will cover any tube info at all but if you can find one take it.

That said there is a TON of great info out there...Gerald Weber has written several great books on tube info and he's not the only one...read up and read up some more and then get your feet wet with a nice simple kit like a Tweed Champ or a Tweed Deluxe then branch out into bigger things.

Re: easy el34 schematic build?

head would be easier

with EL34's you won't be making a 15-30 watt amp unless you have a tiny transformer in there & bias it pretty hot

maybe you meant EL84's?

if you want something simple & easy to mod then just have a tech draw you up a schematic of the guitar channel of an ab165 bassman with the mods necessary to run EL34's. It'll be about 50 watts & sound really good

if i were you i would find someone in your area that can build amps & ask them if they can just sort of supervise your build, may have to pay em some i don't know, it depends on the person

I am just about to start building my first tube amp also. ( champ clone)
I think the responses you have received so far are excellent advice. I found a builder locally who is helping me with suggestions, sourcing parts, etc.

You really need to be aware of a lot of safety concerns. This $hit is dangerous !!!!

Besides a schematic, you might also want to do a full size layout on paper before you start drilling the chassis and soldering components.

Have you decided on the construction method? i.e., Eyelet, turret, teminal strips or whatever.

Do you have any test equipment ? (DMM, etc)

How skilled are you at soldering?

The parts start to add up financially...so you don't want to wire a transformer incorrectly and ...well you know.

Sorry if I underestimate your skills and knowledge.

http://www.hoffmanamps.com is a great site.

Keep asking questions in this forum also, there are many skilled amp builders to get help from.

Good luck on your build

Dave
