Eb To Standard

I had my guitar set up for Eb with 11s. I'm not really liking it. Something seems off. It's intonated perfectly and it's in tune but something just seems off. I want to put it back into standard but I've never attempted something like this. I know it will need to be re-intonated but what else do I need to do? Also, I'm not sure if I want to keep with the 11's or go back to 10s.

I’ve actually done this and the 1st thing I found was that the neck tension changes

Additionally minor changes occur in the action as well which will need adjusting g from the bridge. Post that you’ll need to readjust your pickup height for a sharper and higher treble response.

But before that you’ll need to lower them real nice to get an accurate intonation reading and then bring them back up

Whats the scale? I am thinking switching to 9s in my 25" single cut and have some fun.

Re: Eb To Standard

I recommend tuning it up to standard, playing it, and not worrying about the rest.

Been playing since 1993, tuning guitars down to G and back, and this strategy has worked well for me.

The different notes trip you out. I know it sounds like witchcraft but I'm pretty sure it's true. I didnt like Eb either. D is perfect for me since its still sharps like E.

Re: Eb To Standard

Depending on how it is set up, there are some things that might need to change. The biggest PITA would be if it has a Floyd, as it will need to be re-balanced. If you are keeping the same string size, the truss rod might need a slight tweak as well as the intonation. While many people just tune up and play, I'd still go through every aspect of the setup.

Unless you're playing a guitar with the worlds ****tiest truss rod and you don't have Eric Johnson ears you're going to be fine.

Re: Eb To Standard

Thanks, everyone. For now I might just raise the bass side of the bridge a hair or two. I'm getting slight fret buzz on E and A and I can hear it through the amp.
