eBay amp sale... Should I request FedEx with tracking?

So I won an eBay auction on a 1x12 combo. The seller is a new eBay member with no history. He listed it with USPS Economy Shipping. Does economy shipping come with tracking? I requested that he send it FedEx, and I will pay any additional cost... He has not responded to my request, but it's only been a couple of hours since auction close. Should I insist on tracking? If I don't, will eBay cover me if this guy scams me?

I think shipping a large package via USPS, you get a tracking number. Even if it isn't Priority/Express Mail. Give him a day or so to get back to you, though.

Thank you. I'll just wait it out then and see how he replies.

I think only first class mail has no tracking. I've had a guitar shipped with their economy option. That does have tracking. I'd wait and see. EBay caters to buyers. If they cheat you, they'll refund the cash. I've had dealings with that in the past.

The seller responded last night. It was a short three word response, but that may just be his way. I made the payment, so I all I can do is hope that the transaction goes smoothly.

Hope his response wasn't **ck you dude". I always worry a bit about all of my online guitar purchases, but I've never been burned, knock on wood. eBay or Reverb. As Mr. Yonder said above, eBay caters to buyers ands so does PayPal if you paid that way. You should be ok if it goes south. Here's hoping for a smooth process.

Could be that he's just not a people person or big on customer service. Hopefully, it'll work out. I've scored big by taking chances on sellers with no feedback. A deal is a deal and you're protected either way.

LOL! No f-you, but if I bug him anymore than I have, I may get one. My first eBay purchase back in 2006 was a burn! $2500.00 on a Prophet VS keyboard. The guy was super-cool before getting paid... As I recall, eBay had not yet set up a guaranteed purchase program. Luckily, our credit card company covered the payment.

Re: eBay amp sale... Should I request FedEx with tracking?

FedEx sure is not the gold standard of freight-care anyways, so I wouldn't worry about how he ships it, provided it's with a major carrier.
Tracking should be a given with anything these days. I never get anything that doesn't include a tracking# upon shipment, even if it's a $5 item.

Re: eBay amp sale... Should I request FedEx with tracking?

Its not as important who he ships it with as it is how well he packs it. I never buy anything off an Ebay seller with less than 100 sales, or less than a 99% rating. I try to avoid any seller that says it is a pawn shop. I buy a lot of gear through Ebay, and I have had sellers screw me over several times, but Ebay always covered it when the seller refuses to fix it.

I really haven't got too much from ebay, maybe a couple dozen items, but the one time I got something that was not right it was indeed a pawnshop. (lesson learned)

Re: eBay amp sale... Should I request FedEx with tracking?

No tracking submitted as of yet. If nothing by Wednesday, I doubt I will hear from him again. I was actually through buying gear, but this was something that I've wanted for a while. Come to think of it, I purchased a new Bogner La Grange pedal last week. I've heard nothing from the seller, other than a welcome to email.

Re: eBay amp sale... Should I request FedEx with tracking?

Remember not everyone is setup to pre-print USPS labels, I'm not. I don't sell much at all though, but when I do I have to go to the post-office or UPS-post and have them make the label and give me the tracking code.

Now that it's Monday I'll bet you get an email later today.

Re: eBay amp sale... Should I request FedEx with tracking?

Ebay is not something to get into if you don't have the patience for it. I've had excellent transactions with people who took 3 or 4 days to get back, especially over the weekend. Some people do it from their work email or computer.

Re: eBay amp sale... Should I request FedEx with tracking?

Some people go on weekend trips to get away, or at least that's what I've heard. A 3 word response seems a bit short though, I would still give him a few days, when you are selling personal stuff sometimes life can slow things down a bit. I usually try to ship the day after, but there have been a few times it took me a couple of days because of work, whatever. Of course, I usually do let the buyer know what's going on.

Re: eBay amp sale... Should I request FedEx with tracking?

Just for the record, you have no right in insist on shipping with tracking....at least not AFTER the auction ended. If it was not listed in the auction, or you didn't ask before the end of it....then it's really up to the seller. Having said that and me coming off as a total Di*k :23: you do need to give it a little time before assuming anything. Odds are it will have tracking either way, and also as a new seller he probably will need a bit of time because he probably has no clue as to what he is doing. Having said that, as soon as you can file a grievance (7 days?) do it....unless it's shipped bu then of course. I recently had an experience on reverb very similar, except it was a new guitar from a new seller. He was asking me all kinds of questions about shipping etc., I gave him my best honest advice. Somehow his $50 shipping turned into $125, and this was after we agreed on a price and I had already paid. So I told him to either send it to me as per our contract OR refund me. I also immediately put in a complaint with Reverb and Paypal. He disappeared, not just from me, but from Reverb and Paypal too. Turns out he had some bank problem, couldn't access his paypal or whatever. He also was young and dumb (I know I found him on Facebook, have LOTS of Info if ever needed)....but he came from a nice family so I kept my cool. PayPal refunded me as soon as he didn't respond to the complaint....which unfortunately was about two weeks I had to wait for my money. But I got it back and found a better deal on a better SG and all is good with the world. GOOD LUCK!!!!

Re: eBay amp sale... Should I request FedEx with tracking?

Reassuring replies. Thank you! :)

I had sent him an email requesting for FedEx or UPS shipping, as soon as the auction ended. I also mentioned that I would pay for upgraded shipping... He replied; "Yes of course." No tracking or notifications yet, but then it is early in the day.

Re: eBay amp sale... Should I request FedEx with tracking?

It shipped! Now, I need to pray that it makes it here in one piece. USPS has destroyed 3 amplifiers so far... Will they go for 4?

Re: eBay amp sale... Should I request FedEx with tracking?

Tracking is one thing, but he did insure it, right?

Good point... I don't know? If it gets trashed, it's his responsibility. Would suck, as it's sort-of a rare amp.

USPS shipping reads: Accepted. Expected delivery date Wednesday June 27 2o18. Sorry, my zero key is busted. From Ohio to Florida in 3 days seems fast for USPS.
