eBay amp sale... Should I request FedEx with tracking?

Re: eBay amp sale... Should I request FedEx with tracking?

I just sold an item that is going to Nashville from LA in 2 days. Sounds about right and the normal for Priority Mail USPS.

I'm waiting to talk with USPS. The wait time is only 1 1/2 hours. I will never buy gear online again. Par for the course? I purchased two new Bogner La Grange pedals from two different sellers over the last two weeks... Both pedals were used! Either the dealers are reselling returns as new, or the supplier is shipping repaired pedals to dealers as "new" devices.

Okay... This was a scam! USPS says the tracking indicates that the shipment was delivered and signed for. The USPS agent was able to view an image of what was delivered, which was a Priority Mail envelope.

I think this is how the scam went down:
1. The seller uses the buyer address to locate an address close to the target address.
2. The seller then mails a letter to an erroneous recipient.
3. While the buyer is waiting for the delivery, the seller extracts the funds.

The item was suppose to of shipped from Englewood, OH. USPS says that it originated from Duluth, GA. The alternate address may not be erroneous... Though unlikely, he could know someone in our area.

Jesus. This blows man. Try to document as much. Like I said, eBay/PayPal will take good care of ya. It's just time consuming and a bit of a hassle. Sorry to hear you're bad dealings online. I tend find good deals (knocks on wood).

You shouldn't have any problem getting your money back, just keep all the info.

The delivery date did sound a little too quick for an amp. Not defending the seller, but did you double check the tracking number with him? Maybe he mis-typed a number.

Re: eBay amp sale... Should I request FedEx with tracking?

If he did mistype a number then what are the odds the incorrect number would also be headed to the same town? Very low odds

Wow, this hasn't been my experience at all with getting used gear online (or new). Usually I pay with PayPal, which will refund any money if it is a scam. I also request a lot of info from the seller. Keep us informed how this investigation develops, as it might help others as well.

As stated by dave74, the odds of the addresses being so close together are pretty much impossible. One of three possibilities: 1. He chose a random address using our zip code. But who would sign for an envelope they are not expecting? 2. He is a USPS employee (or associate) who has access to the USPS database. He simply lifted a tracking number to a piece of mail that was headed to my zip code. 3. He is part of a crime syndicate with national contacts.

I'm on your side and I understand why you are PO'd! Hope you get it all worked out quickly. Yes, the odds are very high indeed (although probably lower than winning the lottery). I usually try to give someone a chance before officially filing claims, etc.. but this does sound screwed up all around.

I've been fortunate, the worst thing I've had to deal with was a guitar that was listed in excellent shape that definitely wasn't after I received it, and the pics were cleverly taken/slightly out of focus enough to hide some pretty major stuff. It ticked me off, but I at least had something in hand.

Yes, I have. They are going to call me tomorrow, as their system had not yet received the update from USPS. They said not to worry, as I'm covered by eBay protection. I really wanted to get this amplifier. In typical cryptic style, the seller has denied this was a scam. I requested that he send me a picture of the USPS shipping receipt... Nothing yet.

Do you think it's possible that USPS somehow crossed the numbers with the other delivery? The seller insists that he shipped to the address given to him by eBay. I of-course requested that he send that address to me. Said he will provide a copy of the shipping receipt.

Re: eBay amp sale... Should I request FedEx with tracking?

I have seen weird tracking stuff from USPS, so it wouldn't surprise me.

Re: eBay amp sale... Should I request FedEx with tracking?

I wonder... Could a USPS driver conceivably swap tracking numbers with another shipment in an effort to steal a delivery?

Should have the item's weight on there somewhere. Might reveal if he's being honest, but I guess if it is a scam he might not send it anyways.

Re: eBay amp sale... Should I request FedEx with tracking?

I doubt the driver would try to steal it, those labels don't come off easy and his job is way more valuable than your amp.

And yes, I have USPS tracking display wrong before, but the package made it okay. 2 days for an amp seemed a litte too quick, even for priority, you've reported it so you're covered, I would give it a few more days.

Re: eBay amp sale... Should I request FedEx with tracking?

I talked with eBay escalation today. This seller had two other cases of fraud filed against him/her under alternate IDs. Why eBay would let the same individual open multiple accounts is mystery, but there it is. eBay said they will be permanently banned from ever opening another account. I wish President Trump could get a law passed that makes fraud a crime that is punishable by death. That would be glorious! Anyway, I'm covered by eBay protection.

Re: eBay amp sale... Should I request FedEx with tracking?

Wow, that bites but at least they are taking care of you. Yeah, ebay dropped the ball on that one letting him open another account! So, I guess the amp search begins again(?).
