ECHO, ECHo, ECho, Echo, echo...

My name is Christian and I love ECHO, ECHo, ECho, Echo, echo...

This is my newest addition to my tonal arsenal, a 1973 Maestro Echoplex EP-3. I bought this from our very own Lew and got it this afternoon...so far I LOVE IT!!!

Here are some pics...

Lucky one, looks cool (at least.. I love how old echo boxes look.. they were so.. huge and pro looking.

Dude.. I've been wondering forever.. what's with the metal bar in the middle of your amp?

THANKS!

This is the deal with the bar on the amp...it's a V Front with two 10 inch speakers, each speaker has it's own baffle board and they are angled away from each other (giving it the name (V Front)...the bar actually holds the 2 baffles together as well as holds them to the actual cab...this pic shows that a little better...

Re: ECHO, ECHo, ECho, Echo, echo...

Sweet! Looks like it's in great shape too. So uh, how's it sound? :)

Thanks!

I did have to clean it up a bit and I still have to do a few things to it...it is an Echoplex and it has not been maintained at all in several years, however even as-is it sounds great...I have used tape echo's a few times over the years and IMO nothing sounds as good. I like this one like it is but after a good going over and a fresh tape it will be even better.

looks awesome - I love reverb and echo units! Glad it sounds great. How's the noise on this one?

It all depends on how high you crank the Echo Volume (MIX) Control...right now it has the original 2 prong cord, all but one of the original filtger caps, dirty heads and a 25 year old tape cartradge and to be hones tit's not as bad as some other's I have seen/heard/used...after a full on cleaning, some contact cleaner, cleaning the heads and new tape I shoudl be doing real well on the noise front.

And I was the 1st forum bro to play through it. This fool called me up and asked if I was home I said yes and he said........ "OK I am coming over. I need to run some pedals past you to get your opinion."

He shows up with the Echo box!!! I had no idea it would be here so quick. It sounded GREAT.....no AMAZING through the Vibrolux!!!!

I took some pics too!!!

Re: ECHO, ECHo, ECho, Echo, echo...

Yeah...they do dull up the cleans but it's done in such a beautiful and pleasing way!

I really do dig this thing...Like I said I have used tape echo units before but most of them were pretty trashed and I didn't see the appeal to them at the time, this one is much nicer so far and I completely understand why people want them.

As for the Grove shirt...I never wore one when the band was still together and after we split up I grabbed about 15-20 of them from the rehearsal room, Im down to 2 or maybe 3 and they pop up now and then!

Now, Im off to find Echoplex tapes!!

That is exactly what I thought about it. I was expecting it to be a bit more muffled. I like clean as good as the next guy and the Echoplex doesn't ruin that for me.

OH BTW the most odd thing about Christian getting the EP3 is the fact that he hardly ever uses delay. I mean he's got dozens of cool pedals and like 1 delay out of all them. I just thought about that bro......

Re: ECHO, ECHo, ECho, Echo, echo...

That is NICE!!!!! I hate you.....can I be your friend?

Don't be hatin'! Anytime you;re in the Atlanta area you;re welcome to stop by and be friends!

Thats not true...I have a DD-5 and an RV-3 (which is onloan to my pops0 as well as a Rocktron Analog Delay:headbang:

I have a feeling I'll be using more delay now that I have this beast!
