I have a amplis and effects EVH. A Harmonizer not existed in 81. I think FW, the best quality sound 0f all records. The Diver Down is the worse (quality sound only).

Eddie used equalizer pedal only in first albun, with Gibson 57' custom yourself, cause after, your colectors don't needed.

All solos in this record is unforgetable. But nothing like that "One foot on the door"

For the same pickup to get you a particular guy's sound, you have to have the same pick and picking technique he has. Very often because your own playing technique is totally different from so-and-so's, you can get the same sound with totally different gear.

Very true.

When Ted Nugent played through Eddie's stuff, Eddie said Ted sounded just like Ted...not EVH.

if Vhoholic played through eddies rig he would sound exactly like EVH:laugh2:
but it is very true that the player has so much to do with the tone that a pup alone rarely makes you into a instant EVH.

Dude...I'm telling ya,The 1978/EVH will get you closer to Eddie's tone than ANYTHING. You can spend hundreds of dollars(maybe thousands) on an old P.A.F. but then you have to tear a coil off and rewind it hotter than the existing one. It still won't be as close as Seymour's. He studied the thing and reproduced it...so that's where it's at. I didn't think it mattered what amp I played it through...it was still EVH so I got rid of it. WAY too close for me.

VHoholic's tone is very much the tone from the first 2 albums, best match to it that I've ever heard from anyone other than EVH himself.

The bucker that Eddie had in the frankenstrat in those days was a stock PAF from an ES-335. From my understanding it had not been rewound yet, or one coil hadn't been rewound yet. The '59 is the same typical design as those old PAF's. He's also using the right amp and has it set just right with the right amount of 'verb/echo to make it all click.

The '78 gets the early tone very well. The CC can get in the ballpark but the '78 is dead nuts on. The CC however nails the Fair Warning tone.

"yeah i heard they have the VH mojo but how does VHoholic get that same tone with a stock duncan 59?"

Put an Alnico II magnet in it. I've done that before and it gets closer to the 78 than an actual '59. The AL II pro is too low output and the CC is too high. The '59 bridge w/ AL 2 mag will get you closer to the 78 than any other stock.

"He's also using the right amp and has it set just right with the right amount of 'verb/echo to make it all click."

Yep...I have a Rockman Stereo Chorus/Delay and the slapback delay set real low(like 70) nails the VH slapback dead on.

Re: Eddie Van Halen EVH in Fair Warning. What's Humbucker? Help from Brazil!!!

The 59/Custom Hybrid nails it... I have swapped them all in & out of the same guitar which is the key when comparing pickups.

The EVH/78 is hands down 100% the best after the Hybrid in getting that tone...

Re: Eddie Van Halen EVH in Fair Warning. What's Humbucker? Help from Brazil!!!

BachToRock...I'm constantly wondering what a "BroBucker" mag or "AirBucker"A5 technology would sound like under that hybrid instead of AL2. Any experiments on either of those?

Re: Eddie Van Halen EVH in Fair Warning. What's Humbucker? Help from Brazil!!!

I am happy with the traditional A2 and A5 magnets... I do like experimenting with polepiece configurations like Double Studs, Double Screws or big Oxide Caps like on the Invader.

Ed's best solo ever....Push Comes to Shove, of course. Played on a Strat...not Frankie or the Destroyer.

Mike

That solo is a humbucker.

And I think "Fair Warning" is one of the *easiest* tones to duplicate.

Just pipe any humbucker through a Marshall with a distortion pedal and you've got the tone. It's his least-organic, least "Plexi-sounding", with the least amount of power-amp distortion. It's the highest pre-gain he ever used until the "Carnal Knowlege" album.

It almost sounds like every other cookie-cutter 80's tone, but with the treble rolled-off.

Turn your right speakers off, and just listen to his guitar (the left side), and you'll see what I mean. Zero power-tube distortion warmth (his trademark). You can get that tone with a friggin' Marshall Valvestate, IMO.
