Edwards vs. Tokai vs. Burny

Which of these are the ones to go for?

I've been looking at their 335 models online.

As well I know a few people have ordered these off ebay - how much did you pay in customs?

Re: Edwards vs. Tokai vs. Burny

Edwards -> mostly made in China and then assembled, finished in Japan

Tokai -> some models made in Japan, most made in Korea

Burny -> all models made in Japan (if I'm not mistaken)

Based on that, I'd say.... Burny.

Re: Edwards vs. Tokai vs. Burny

Most of Burny/Fernades production has been in Korea for the past 10-15 years and now much is in China. I don't think they do much of anything in Japan under either brand name anymore.

All 3 manufacturers have guitars made in Japan, Korea, and China. Most Edwards are made in Japan, as are most Tokais. Edwards "grassroots" models are the ones that are made in china, and some lower end models are now parts sourced from China, and put together in japan. Older Edwards models were completely MIJ.

As long as we are talking (completely) MIJ instruments, no doubt Tokai & Burny have the most authentic to the original clones as far as dimensions, top carves, they way they do the binding, etc. That said Edwards are probably easier to come by and their wholly MIJ guitars are phenomenal- just shy away from the lacquer taste models which are lacquer over poly- the finish is quite thick.

I personally would stick with Tokai's MIJ instruments (which are clearly labeled as such) based on my experience, and if going for Edwards/Burny be extremely wise & thorough about researching the individual guitar- Burny in particular can be hard to tell between MIK vs MIJ manufacture and there is little concrete info denoting the minor differences between the two. They often have identical features.

If you are open to other MIJ brands, check out Bacchus, and if $ are not a big concern, the Navigator lineup.

Stick to the Jap made guitars and I don't think you can really go wrong on any of these guitars.
I've played Les Paul examples of all of them and there's not really much to chose between them.
Now to spot the difference easily between the MIJ and the MIK/MIC guitars look at the trus rod cover. I believe this will apply to all makes, for some odd reason. MIJ guitars will have 2 screws holding the cover in place, MIK/MIC will have three.

Re: Edwards vs. Tokai vs. Burny

I've had an Edwards LPC. It was a very nice guitar. Sounded gorgeous too. The build quality was probably around 95%; the binding wasn't perfect but that's about it. I really liked her, but the LP sound just isn't for me at all.

I also used a friend's Tokai for a summer and THAT was one NICE Les Paul. Easy to play, sweet to hear, not too heavy... she'd been a little battered and she wasn't the prettiest but she was one nice piece of equipment.

Funny thing. The Edwards was my guitar, but I don't miss it. The Tokai was a friend's but I got some very, very good stuff out of her. Just a lovely guitar she was.

That is one tasty looking Tokai Pierre, not one of the cheaper ones mind :)

My usual place to look for Tokai's is richtone music, who are uk based... but they seem to have stopped stocking them.
