Years ago I bought a Guyatone FLIP Metal Monster (starved plate overdrive /distortion pedal) for about $70. I brought it home and plugged it in and I found it to be too much gain to be useable for my purpose. I then installed a 5814A (military grade 12AU7) and then it was more useful gain. After some research and looking through my stash of NOS tubes, I installed a 12BH7 (a taller tube with different parameters and the same Mu rating as a 12AU7). I had to remove a piece of foam and had to slightly bend (and return) the tube socket support to install the tube. Glad I did it and it sounds excellent. Anyone else do any tube rolling in their effect pedals?
