effects+footpedal for engl powerball

I need some help for using effects and stuff with my engl powerball.
for the moment I'm using a Z5, which is just an amp switch and no effects.
I 'm planning on using some effects in the future and would like to do it in a way that I can switch my channel and at the same time activate different effects (eg. switch from a clean with chorus to a lead hi gain with reverb). so I guess midi is the way to go, but what would be the best to do this? do I have to buy a rack with effects and a midi pedal or are there other options?

anyone else? I can use any advice you have... I know what midi is and how it works (in theory) but other than that I'm just a noob. I really don't have clue on how to connect it or what devices I need....

Most of TC Electronics Rack gear will allow you to program presets that include changing your amps channels . . . G Force, GMajor and G system . . . . all will do what you want
