Effects Minimalists...

I consider myself an effect minimalist. I currently only use my Classic 30's overdrive, and I love my tone. Of course I wouldn't mind having a Fulldrive II or a nice wah in my rig, but for now I'm content. So for those of you who use little to no effects, are there any pedals that you consider MUST HAVES?

Re: Effects Minimalists...

the only effects i use are the vibrato in my blonde bandmaster, a vox wah, and a spina TS9. Maybe every once in a while ill use my dunlop rotovibe for a little chorus.

Re: Effects Minimalists...

wow, quencho has a setup very similar to mine...

I use two pedals I don't consider effects: TU-2 and a Volume pedal

and as far as actual effects: Rotovibe, Teese McCoy wah, and a Spina TS-9....

but I'm sending my Sparkle Drive to Spina and it may replace my rotovibe if I like it that much...I love the fact I can dial in a clean tone with it, and I'll use it to buffer my signal :)

Re: Effects Minimalists...

slick. I really love my tone, the Spina TS9 isn't over the top insane overdrive, in fact, i really like the tone i get with the drive at 8 o clock, tone at 6, level set at or beyond 5. It's just a really sweet tone fattener, and you can't go wrong with it.

Re: Effects Minimalists...

I play through a Fender Twin so an Overdrive/distortion box is a MUST...current favs are a Lovetone Brown Source or a Pro Co Rat but I must say...I have not gone to rehearsal or to a gig lately without my Spina DS-1! I always have a wah-wah (this is going to get Spinaized VERY soon as well), and I always have a tuner and my old MIJ Boss Octave box...

Re: Effects Minimalists...

i even play an american strat like you do! The only setup diff. is the amp and the pickups(i have surfers), but doesnt the rectoverb get some pretty sweet fenderish cleans?

Re: Effects Minimalists...

i only use a boss tu2 floor tuner (not an effect, yet a pedal wich is a must for me!!)and an MXR evh phase 90...i own more but i hardly use the others. i am contemplating adding a modded tube screamer and a digitech whammy to my rig though.

Re: Effects Minimalists...

Delay for cleans and leads, and chorus for cleans.

I'm currently using a Boss DD-20 delay, and I'm saving for a CE-20 chorus.

Re: Effects Minimalists...

Maxon CS9 chorus
535q wah
Duncan pickup booster
Hughes/Kettner tube factor

All are are good quality and have true bypass. I don't normally use them when I record. I like the pure tone of a cranked tube amp the most.

Those little classic 30s are very cool amps. They are great for blues and classic rock. The distortion is very useable. I like the boost also.

Re: Effects Minimalists...

I rarely use effects live, recording I'll use a few things but I don't consider any pedal essential.

My current favs EH Dr.Q (great notched wah and autowah sounds), Small Stone and a BF-2 Flanger that SD97 tweaked for me.

Re: Effects Minimalists...

20 of the 23 years I've been playing guitar has been guitar straight into the amp. My conclusion several years ago was that my sound was getting boring. I've bought quite a few pedals in the last couple of years and have found that they do add flavor and mix to my tone. New sounds keep me interested more so than one tone. My essentials? My current new favorite pedal EVER, the Fulltone OCD. My Line 6 DL4. MXR Phase 45. Oh and a Boss GE7. Nothing extreme or fancy. However, I am looking to get a Timmy booster or a RC Boost in the near future. But the OCD is king of pedals in my collection at the moment.

Re: Effects Minimalists...

I use my NS-2, and run my Behringer for reverb, delay, and chorus, but chorus only goes on cleans.

Re: Effects Minimalists...

Git-tar --- DS-1 --- Bassman...straight-up clean, straight-up distortion, everything in between with my volume knob. I'm thinkin of just getting a bunch of differently-voiced distortion pedals 'cuz I mean........I like distortion...

Re: Effects Minimalists...

the rectoverb gets some KILLER clean tones...not quite fenderish, but definitely not your typical mesa clean tones...lots of punch in them, lots of sparkle dialable with the treble and presence knobs...I love my amp
