Effects Minimalists...

Re: Effects Minimalists...

I try to stay away from using too much, here's my signal diagram:

guitar -> Pro Analog Supa Quack wah -> Pro Analog Dual Drive (for leads) -> Clay Jones Overdrive (blues/fusion type stuff) -> Peterson Strobostomp (for true bypass tuning) -> ISP Decimator (for cutting down on noise) -> amp

Not super technical: no phasers, flanges, multi-fx, ring modulators, loopers, delays, choruses and the like... just a few flavors of overdrive, a wah, and the standard tuner, noise supressor (although I may finally give in and purchase a ToneCzar Echo Czar delay pedal).

I'm really anal about signal clarity, so I always recommend trying to keep with low capacitance cables and true bypass effects (if not, something like the Axess Line/Buffer would work well for keeping the direct response while adding effects).

I too am not to much into effects. The only effect I currently use is Reverb on my amp. I occasionaly use a phaser. I am planning on bying a Marshall Bluesbreaker II for overdrive & a Marshall Vibrotrem, a Delay & a WAH. Once I get the Vibratrem the phaser wld be out. I like the signal clean or with modulations (not too much though) Making that a total of 4 pedals.

I don't like pedal distortion - I never have. It just sounds fake next to real tube distortion. I'll sometimes use a distortion pedal to boost a low or medium-gain tube amp into more crunchy territory (TS8 -> Fender Bassman, etc.), but never for the stompbox distortion itself.

I need my Korg tuner, my MXR Smart Gate, and my Ernie Ball volume pedal. I like to have my BOSS DD6 and my Morley Bad Horsie II. :)

Re: Effects Minimalists...

i like lots of stuff- guitar synth, long looping delays, stuff to make it sound like anything but a guitar sometimes.

Re: Effects Minimalists...

I currently use a Morlay Wah, a Jekyll & Hyde Ultimate Overdrive (Hyde set as a "metal" type drive, Jekyll set as a mid boost for solos), into my Marshall TSL 601. That's it! If I'm recording and need a few different effects I'll use my Vamp 2.

Re: Effects Minimalists...

I like to use effects. The fun part about playing guitar for me is emaulating the tones on some of my favorite tunes. Luckily for me, my pedal board is large enough that I can plug and unplug pedals in my chain as is need them or swap out different effects as I need them. That way I can keep my signal as pure as possible. I guess the only ones I would consider essential would be my Boss TU2 tuner, Digitech Whammy, and Mr. Crybaby Super. Otherwise the gain and reverb on my Marshall is usually good enough for most situations...

Re: Effects Minimalists...

Live with my old metal band i had my TU-2 tuner, NS-2 noise surpresser and GE-7 EQ for lead boosts. Ive recently got a Bad Horsie 2 (love it!) and with my latest band we are doing a hard rock kinda thing, im using less gain. Im thinkin my rig will be Bad horsie into my POD into clean amp. When i have my own amp i'll probably use pedals minus the noise surpressor.
