Effects Question

I was just wondering, is there a significant difference between hooking effects to an effects loop and putting them like Guitar-Effect-Amp. Does it affect the sound at all? :dunno:

Re: Effects Question

The effects loop taps your signal between the preamp out and the power amp input. Placing certain types of pedals in the loop versus in front of the amp may have a positive or negative impact on your tone, depending on the type of effect and whether the loop is series or parallel.

Conventional wisdom is that effects that shape your tone (wah, compression, overdrive/distortion) should go in front of the amp, while modulation and time-based effects can go in the loop. But just play around and find out what works best for you.

Re: Effects Question

It doesn't make a big difference if you play clean. If you're getting distortion from the amp as opposed to a pedal, it makes a big difference. Some effects such as modulation, delay, and reverb, don't sound good when there is distortion after the effect.
