Egnater's new products - NAMM 2013/2014

CTN

The Drama Dude
Egnater seems to be a bit dysfunctional in terms of their announcements of new products and following it up with firm production deadlines.

The Detroit 18W & 40W amps that were announced at last year's winter NAMM were slated to be on the market by fall. People were excited about those amps. But fall came and went, and nobody got to buy a Detroit series amp. People have been clamoring for them, have contacted Egnater directly and there seems to be absolutely zero response from the company about the status of these amps, let alone if the production run schedule even exists.

Granted, these were supposed to herald the "return to 100% USA" production for Egnater, so maybe the logistics of setting up a US production facility is slowing them down.

Did anyone at NAMM this year happen to check out the Egnater booth and find out wtf is the deal with these amps?

They just sound too good on paper (and the few sparse demos from NAMM 2013 sounded great too):

Detroit 18:
18 watts using 2x6V6
2 channels
Reverb, bass, mid, treble, volume gain, torque, tone, gain
variable wattage and home/stage setting as well

Detroit 40:
40 watts using 2x6L6
2 channels - independent EQ stacks
Reverb, boost, bass, mid, treble, volume, gain, torque, bass, mid, treble, gain
variable wattage and home/stage setting

Supposed to be more aggressive sounding than the Rebel or Tweaker.

It seems they have a new TOL out. I'm assuming they're re-grouping in a sorts. Bruce is an awesome guy. I chat with him via e-mail from time to time.

He seems like an awesome guy.

Unfortunately, that alone doesn't make an effective business...

Re: Egnater's new products - NAMM 2013/2014

^I agree. There does appear to be some issues. I think they should just go back to being a small boutique brand again. I think they went for something and qc got out of hand... But that's all I can really say.

Oh they want to do US production again? Nice.

I'd love to try an 18-watt egnator.

What are you waiting for?

Re: Egnater's new products - NAMM 2013/2014

I toured with two rebel 20's all winter of 2013 in Canada mostly (COLD/ hot/ COLD) I didn't have any problems, granted they were in a ATA shock 6 rack sp/head road case, and had my tech yank chassis' and go over solder joints and connections like I would anything i do road work with.

Anyway, I think the TOL 60 is the first of the Hi gain series, they displayed, then quit talking about 2 yr's ago. I'm really am interested in a R-20 & 30 of that series. I have a 100 watt amp builders seminar single ch Egnater that Sweetwater sound had that has become my go to modded Marshall style top now. God it's great sounding...

But I really do want to see that Detroit 18 come out. I loved that amp's grunt in video. I got hip to Egnater later then most, really like his sound signature. And yeah he seems like a real cool dude. VG

Re: Egnater's new products - NAMM 2013/2014

yeah, Id like to hear the Detroits. I have a Tweaker and dig it, but El84 amps sound wooly to me. I put bigger bottles in my tweaker, but it no is less flexible

Re: Egnater's new products - NAMM 2013/2014

100 watt seminar amp... I'm jealous... I just got through tweaking my 2012 Seminar amp and have it cookin good. A tripple 820/.68 gain stage, bigger PI caps... goosed plate resistor on V1a... and a Jose style clipping circuit. Evil. Flat out Evil.

Re: Egnater's new products - NAMM 2013/2014

Whoa, I looked all over the web last nite after seeing this thread and posting for any new Egnater pics but didn't see this, Man that looks killer! I also did find a vid that the camera passed by showing a rebel 20 and 30 MKII. they were in the std covering, not the black like new TOL-60. (When the original "high gain" series was shown all models were in black)

xxxplorer, that sounds like a killer amp! I got a Cameron modded 76' SL (his Jose/Aldrich thing)Iv'e had for yr's for that territory, and it kills, what I like about the Eggy hand wired 1 ch, was gain staging is very responsive and natural but has enough gain to saturate, but still clean up from the guitar. I would love to hear that a Jose clipper on the Egnater circuit!

Damn I want that Detroit! VG

Re: Egnater's new products - NAMM 2013/2014

Last week, I picked up what I consider to be one of Egnater's greatest creations.....a Vengeance head.
There's a reason it's getting 5 out of 5 stars on every review on the internet. It's on par with the world's most expensive channel switching amps, but is far less money........and in my case...FAR, FAR, FAR less money! LOL

I'll list everything I love about it.
Extremely nice sounding clean channel. Very versatile. Each channel has it's own reverb knob. (digital)
Versatile and killer sounding gain channel. Goes from Marshall to Diezel. Awesome sustain and fat lead tone.
120/60W that shuts off a duet.
Ability to use any octal tube type, even two types mixed. Bias points and bias pot for each duet on back. Takes 3 minutes to bias it with a volt meter.
Both channels have identical knob and switch layout. Footswitchable dual masters, so you've got a lead boost.
Footswitch has everything you'd want and nothing you don't want. Good switches too.
PC board is heavy duty and through soldered. Chinese, but similar quality to anything US.
Comes stock with high end Ruby 6L6GC's and Tungsol 12AX7's. In 3 days, I'll be converting it from 6L6 to
JJ E-34L. I'm hoping the change makes it even better.

Overall, I like all sorts of amps. If the Vengeance were strictly a heavy metal buzz box, I wouldn't have bought it. To me, it's like having a 2 channel XTC or Diezel Einstein or something. I suspect Egnater borrowed a lot of Diezel engineering, because it almost sounds like one. The Vengeance is a nearly perfect rock/metal amp. As loud as it's capable of being, it sounds liquid and tight at bedroom levels as well.
I'm really happy with it.

Good to hear such a ringing endorsement!

But still no Detroits on the market! :(

Joe, that Vengeance looks like an Uberschall. Any resemblance in tone? I'm not too familiar with Diezels since I've never played one, but much more acquainted with Bogners. Also, any thoughts on the Armageddon?

P.S. So what does a good deal look like on these? I keep seeing one on Craigslist, but have no idea the used value.

Re: Egnater's new products - NAMM 2013/2014

I like the brushed aluminum logo they've started using on the Vengeance, Detroit, and SW45. It looks even better in person....like a DeLorean body.
