How are these? I’ve been picking up Muffs here and there. I have the big NYC, the green Russian reissue, the triangle reissue, and the Germanium 4. What am I missing if I don’t get this orange op-amp reissue?

Re: EHX OpAmp Big Muff Pi - orange reissue

The Op Amp Muff has more midrange than the Ram's head or PI & its (@ lower gain settings anyway) a more gated Fuzziness.....

The Op Amp Reissue is a fun pedal but it's definitely not an exact copy of the "Siamese Slammers" that James and Billy used in the 90s.

I've got both the JHS Pumpkin Patch & Moon Pi modded reissues currently and I love both of them! The Moon Pi pretty much stays in my signal chain most of the time & gets used as my main Fuzz but I typically keep the Op Amp Reissue close. It's a great Fuzz for cutting through the mix in a band setting & it just seems to shine in situations where the Moon Pi doesn't FWR?

Plus the JHS "Pumpkin Patch" version makes it much easier to dial in those big furry sounds of my youth & just makes it much more usable in general.

Personally I think, in the Op Amp Reissue's case especially, it's worth spending the extra $30-$40 bucks for the modded version for the extra flexibility alone....

What exactly is a "Siamese Slammer"? I've honestly never heard of it and would love to know more if such a thing exists. If you're referring to the Creamy Dreamer, that pedal didn't exist until several years after Siamese Dream and there's no evidence that Billy Corgan or James Iha ever used it. The pedal's creator sent each of them a sample and I've heard that it was seen on one of their boards during the Machina tour, but that's the closest link I'm aware of.

The actual Siamese Dream album was primarily recorded with an original Op-Amp Big Muff run into the 'SOUL' JCM800. Most of the leads were the same Big Muff boosted with an MXR Distortion II. The album was also heavily overdubbed with a Marshall JMP-1, ADA MP-1, and who knows what else.

You can see Billy's Op-Amp Big Muff and MXR Distortion II in this video posted a few years ago:

Re: EHX OpAmp Big Muff Pi - orange reissue

I wasn’t sure what kinds of guitar tones were implied by Smashin’ Punkins Siamese Dream. The only thing of theirs I had was the Zero EP. So I had to order Siamese. I think it’s semi- out of print. But I have a copy coming tomorrow.

I think it is a great album, and will listen to the whole thing in order without track skipping. It has some really great guitar tones that are very studio dependent, the layers on Cherub Rock are pretty k.a.

My CD came in today. I listened in the car on the way home, and there are some interesting guitar tones. In places it kinda sounds like a Foxx Tone Machine. Is that the Op-Amp BMP?

He talks about it on here. This video made me want (and buy) one and I had no idea what songs SP even did,,,,,had to wiki them lol.
To me it's a sabbath-like tone like he talks about in the vid.

Butch Vig!

I like those tones a lot. Easy pick for a next pedal.
