EHX Wailer Wah- Noisy?

Hi everyone,

My main wah is a MXR CAE MC404, which I use in front on my H&K Grandmeister Deluxe 40. Even when using the Ultra (High gain) channel, the wah isn't noisy at all.

I'm now putting up a backup board, and wanted to use the EHX Wailer Wah I got last year, and while at a very different price point from the CAE MC404, I really like its tone.

The issue I have with it is the noise. Even in front of my amp in its clean channel, it introduces noise, and it gets worse when using higher gain channels.

Does anyone here use one, and is facing the same issue? And mods you can suggest to counteract the noise? Google searches found noithing on this.

Re: EHX Wailer Wah- Noisy?

I have always found EHX stuff to be noisy and have always avoided it since the '80s. People have told me EHX stuff is getting quieter but after reading this I don't think I am buying it.

I knew about those noise issues, but since I use a noise gate, I though I could work around it. Close, but no cigar. Guess I'll sell it and try to find a cheaper, noise-free alternative.

I wonder if that wah is defective? I have a few old EHX pedals, and currently have an original Microsynth on my board. I’ve never found their stuff to be any noisier than anything else.
