EJ Custom ?

Hello Everybody,

I am wondering if anyone has used the EJ Custom bridge and/or neck pickups and if so what did you think?

I have phat cats in my main explorer and would like twangy humbuckers to go in my backup explorer in case the singles in my main guitar are too noisy in certain venues.

I play rockabilly/ country/ social D type stuff

Thaks for any info on these pickups as they sound like what I'm looking for. Thanls again for the help. Severen

Re: EJ Custom ?

In Social Distortion, P90s were used. The closest "P90 in a humbucker housing" pickup I've tried is the Gibson P-94, believe it or not. Comes remarkably close to the real deal P-90. They can definitely be twangy, but have a lot of bite when dug in. For rockabilly, that's a tough one because something along the Filtertrons would be ideal for you. I believe that's what the EJ Custom is based on, so you'd probably be pretty happy for that style, but it won't have enough output to knock you back for Social D's sound.

Re: EJ Custom ?

I've heard good things about the EJ neck....but have never tried one myself.

I'm thinking about getting one though....I love brighter more single-coil type sounds in the neck.

As for a P-90 in hum housing Dimarzio makes the Bluesbucker which is apparently just that from the description.

I know this might be difficult but can anyone compare the EJ neck to other neck pickups???
