El Rey Effects Fuzz...

I stumbled across El Rey Effects somehow; I don't really remember what I was searching at the time to find it though. Anyway, I really liked what I heard from the Ouija fuzz they offer. It seemed to have an aggressive side that I think would sound great with my Marshall JCM900 MkIII. I am not familiar with them, and there seems to be little information about them on the web.

I did order one, but I wanted to see if any of you have heard/tried there fuzzes before?
Here is their website... http://www.elreyfx.com/index.html

I think it looks pretty cool

Anybody have any opinions on them?

Re: El Rey Effects Fuzz...

That Ouija sounds like a muff or at least muff derivative to me.
I had a MKIII900. It was a cool dirty amp, but because of that groovy crunch sound it was not born with a whole load of low end. Muffs (especially the green russian ones) add a ton of low end, but quite a lot of that is lost when you hit the amp and the preamp loses defintition. Also, cos the MKIII is a naturally dirty amp, you wont need a heap of clipping coming from the muff -better to have just enough to add that fuzzy edge and let the amp do what it does best in terms of crunch.
Check out a pharaoh fuzz too. Its a muff derivative also - but it has separate trimmers for treble and bass as well as the extra clipping options (like removing the diodes so it only distorts the transistors) so it will integrate nicely into your amp's natural eq and gain structure.

I hope that the Ouija works out for me. I did like that it added low end, which like you said the MkIII isn't known for having. The Pharoah fuzz sounds versatile for sure. If the Ouija doesn't work out, I will try the Pharoah. I also really loved what I heard from the Flickinger Angry Sparrow, but I wasn't up for spending close to $200 for a fuzz.

I even thought about doing one of those BYOC Fuzz units, but my time is limited and I liked what I heard from the Oujia.

Thanks guys! I will post some clips and pictures upon arrival. They are built upon order, so I am hoping that the unit is extra clean internally. We will see then!
