EL84's, Mullards or Tung Sol???

These will be for a Orange Tiny Terror but I'm up in the air about what brand to go with. I just want to know that you guys think would be the best choice between them for the T.T.?

Suggestions?????

Re: EL84's, Mullards or Tung Sol???

Ime, the mullard ri el84s sound a bit more vintagey. They are more open than JJs, clearer and have a complex midrange. Not as much low end. The modrn.Tung sols are clear too, too bright for me but they have more low end than the mullards, and they are punchy like JJs The tung sols would probably be better for metal.. The mullards have very little headroom and pretty much are all about the distortion.

iow-completely different sounding tubes.

I actually ended up buying Mullards but a friend has a matched set of Mesa EL84's he going to give me. I figure I'll give them a shot & if they end up sucking I'll just drop in the Mullards? I've never used Mesa tubes before so I don't know what they are going to do in that head, we'll see I guess???

Re: EL84's, Mullards or Tung Sol???

I've tried JJ, Tung-Sol, Chinese, Mullard, and Electroharmonix. I think the EHX might sound the best of the bunch, and for the money, they can't be beat.

Re: EL84's, Mullards or Tung Sol???

Use Electro Harmonix as well...never liked the JJ's much, too flat and lack body.
Tungsols....rattle too much!
And so on....wonder why they even brand them with names of the past???
They have nothing to do with what used to be made!!!

Re: EL84's, Mullards or Tung Sol???

I love the JJ's in my Dual Terror. They sound very rich and they've held up ridiculously well. I was not a fan of their tubes til I got this amp.

I've used the Tung Sols and the EH's in different amp (Jet City 18wt head) and both were really good, held up well.

I hated HATED the Mesa EL84's in a Crate Vintage Club I had. My bass player has it now and we put the EH's in there, much better. The Mesa's were abrasive and brittle sounding.
