Electric Drum Kits!!!!!!!!!?

Hi guys.

I hoped that you could recommend me a low budget electric drum kit for which i'd really just use for practising(want a kit that is No-where near as loud as an acoustic kit that can be "headphonable" ,for lack of a better word) but with decent sounds, Nothing fancy really but something to keep me interested aswell as oppesed to beating the crap out of 7 plastic pads for 3 hours a day :laugh2:

I'd be looking at mabye at most $300 - $500 Used (i'f thats even at all possible, i'm kinda very dumb to the drum price world, but you can get pretty killer guitars in that range tho :) ) but if not i could throw more at it, but keep it somewhat affordable

Cheers

Re: Electric Drum Kits!!!!!!!!!?

I'll ask one of my drummer friends, he got a V-Kit of some sort just before christmas...

Re: Electric Drum Kits!!!!!!!!!?

I've been looking at the same kind of thing for awhile now myself (I'm finding that it'll be easier to learn to play the drums than to find a drummer... :yell: ) and what I keep hearing from guys who know what they're talking about is "Get a Roland TS-3 set". Runs about $850 new. I've seen 'em ebay'd for around $600. I don't have any yet, so I can't comment on them, but that's my plan and I'm sticking to it...

Re: Electric Drum Kits!!!!!!!!!?

there's a set called the prodigy from hart, which is the least expensive one i can think of, you can get it for $499 US for everything except the module, or they have a package with an alesis dm5 for $649 US

Re: Electric Drum Kits!!!!!!!!!?

coincedentally I decided to break apart and sell 2 out of my 3 electronic kits. They are all on ebay right now, all parts sold individually. The price right now on most of them is set at about 25% of what those parts cost new, and most are in mint shape. I'm not trying to plug my own stuff too much, but it's a way to assemble a nice electronic kit for minimal money. I even have an alesis DM-5 module up cheap. The only thing I don't have for sale is the hardware. I may get to that in the future though.

I love electronic drums. The one I use is a combination of pintech and roland pieces. I use a Roland TD-6 module, pintech free standing woven head snare, pintech woven head toms, pintech dual trigger cymbals, roland high hat pedal, pintech kick, gibralter rack, etc. It's really great.

Re: Electric Drum Kits!!!!!!!!!?

Cheers Xeromus but I'm not planning on buying right now, It won't be for a few months anyway.
Ive been also recommended that Prodigy set from hart on another drum forum and they said it's about that price with the Module, i'd be planning on buying from the states as it would probobly work out about half the price if i was to buy the stuff here used.

If i was to have a full kit mailed from The states would the package end up pretty damn heavy? If so would I be better off trying to buy a set without the hardware? or does the hardware add much?
And would buying seperatly really reduce the cost more?

Cheers

it's all good, I'm not trying to sell you anything. Look into the pintech sets too.

www.edrums.com

I like them better than the roland sets and they cost thousands less. Their customer service is unbelievable also. I was looking at the hart prodigy when I was shopping for the first time also. I found pintech to be a better buy, although a little more money. For an entry level set though the Hart isn't bad.

Re: Electric Drum Kits!!!!!!!!!?

sorry if i'm hijacking this thread a little bit, but is there any modules you've found to be comparable to the td-6, xero?

The Alesis DM-5 would be closest in category. The yamaha ones are okay at best. I think if that's what you're looking for a used TD-6 would be best. It seems to me to be the best value with features vs. price taken into consideration. The TD-8 is nice, but it's basically just a TD-6 with EQ and volume sliders for each pad on the face, which is nice, but not worth the price increase.

Re: Electric Drum Kits!!!!!!!!!?

My drummer recommended Yamaha drums. They seem to go cheap, especially the used ones.

But: He said that he sold his own electric drums because, when they did help him practise drumming, they didn't help playing real drums at all. He felt so much different playing electric and normal that he sold the electric ones. Maybe that's just him, but I think that if your aim is playing in a band and with a regular kit, you should steer away from the electric drums. And they never seem to sound good, in our experience.

Re: Electric Drum Kits!!!!!!!!!?

my percussionist uses a roland handsonic, a very cool device.

Re: Electric Drum Kits!!!!!!!!!?

Buy a real drumset of your not gonna play electronic stuff and put on some practice pads and when you have a gig well put on the "real" pads

Re: Electric Drum Kits!!!!!!!!!?

Thats the thing, My brother does have an acoustic kit which i play now and then but i wanted something for myself, I'm not planning on gigging at all either but if I was gonna record for self projects i'd probobly invest in a good Module and go straight to board so to speak.Over time I guess id upgrade if I got into it more seriously but at the moment guitar is my "need" and no.1 priority.Wouldn;t feel right or fun at all using someone elses instrument to practise or play on either :laugh2:

Play 'em 'til you break 'em! ;)

I've tried some low cost Roland kit, very good sounding and feel but i didn't like that you can't "put-the-stick-on-the drum-and-play-on-the-outer-"ring"" :smack:
