electric mistress vs. deluxe electric mistress

Re: electric mistress vs. deluxe electric mistress

Well...I have to ask, are both units being asked abotu the older style (70's/80's) EH units or are you bringing new units into the mix??

If you are talking older units there are several differences...

-The Deluxe version has an internal transformer and runs off wall power via a power cord where the non deluxe version is only battery power

-The Deluxe version is in a larger unit (same size as a Deluxe Memory Man) where the non deluxe version is in a case (the same size as a Big Muff).

-The Deluxe version has a "filter matrix" setting allowing the user (you) to stop the sweep of the flange and use the rate control to dial it in to a "sweet spot"

The Flange section of both units are the same however some argue that the Deluxe version, being AC powered sounds "better"...however I've also heard users that prefered the non deluxe version.

Re: electric mistress vs. deluxe electric mistress

deluxe electric mistress vs. other flanginators? Ibanez, Boss, gray MXR w/ power cord, MXR EVH, ADA? Reliability, noise, transparence, tone suck?

Got a used EM Deluxe in my sights, I'm familiar with all but the EMs and the ADA. Played the EM Deluxe for 5 minutes, seemed groovy. Looking for comparisons to the ones with which I'm familiar. Seems like most people like this one and the ADA the best.

Don't know. It's a Deluxe, it's big, it has a power cord, and an unlabeled switch at the top that makes coffee for all I know.

Seemed to sound similar to the yellow Ibanez, except the resonance knob--I think it's labeled "Color"--makes it go crazy.

I'll probably just get it. Other forums' reviews say they are noisy and unreliable tone suckers that commonly just die. I thought it was more popular amongst the SDUGF populace? I guess Gilmour and Summers can't be wrong, though I've read that their models were modded to combat the aforementioned unpleasantries.

There are only a few flangers I like much anyway to be honest...the EH Electrc Misttress (and the Deluxe version) the original (NON Dunlop) MXR and the ADA but all of those are pretty different...

Those older Ibanez flangers are cool but not my thing really, and a lot of guys like the old purple Boss flanger but again, not me...

Electric Mistress...think Summers/Gilmour, MXR, think EVH, ADa, think broken lazer guns!

Thats what I was talking about...power cord means that it's an original from the 70's/80's or one of the earlier reissues, the newest ones have a wall wart.

The switch on top is the "Filter Matrix" switch...it shuts the sweep off allowing ou do use the speed control to dial in various types of metalic tones...very cool.

It's not true bypass but neither are any/were of mine and FWIW, they never "suck tone" IMO...there is a tiny volume drop but I've used a DEM for years and years both live and in recordings and was never botheres at all by the volume issue, it's just not that big of a drop.

Also, FWIW, both Andy and David used their Electris Mistress pedals dead stock as far a I know.

You just sold me on it. I'm getting it.

Best of luck!

FWIW, the Deluxe Electric Mistress I have tay was picked out of 3 I had at the time, one of them 2 I let go of was an original from the late 70's...the reissue I kept sounded just as good and had a tad less noise! The newest reissues (the ones with the wall wart) make even less noise!

Re: electric mistress vs. deluxe electric mistress

Remember all those old Police albums...loads of Mistress flanging...great flanger...
Gilmour likes them too...
I had one.....but it sadly got stolen in my rehearsal room in the middle 90s...had the Deluxe with the wallsocket...also had a Hot tubes Hex inverter distobox...

Re: electric mistress vs. deluxe electric mistress

eh, noyzzzy in front. Punch turns to blat. Good with cleans though. Disappears in the loop.

Traded it back for my FL-9 re-ish I had stashed at the store. That one is my fave modulator, does the subtles, is chorusy, gets *almost* as thick, chewy, and deep as the MXRs. No noise, perfect volume matching, analog.

And a it's a cool yellow next to the pretty blue Liquid Chorus.

Ain't played an EH I like yet, but I keep trying 'em.
