Re: Electro Harmonix Customer Service
I dealt with EHX Customer Service once...had a Big Muff that I'd bought, and about two weeks after, the stomp switch died...I'd barely used it, maybe a dozen times...so theres no reason it shoulda died. Normally, I would have simply gone back to GC and exchanged it for another BMP. But when I bought that one, I'd gone through all the BMP's they had in stock, and that was the best sounding one...so I didn't really wanna simply exchange it for another I knew to sound worse...So I emailed EHX, and after a week didn't get a response, so I called, got someone after holding for 15-20 minutes...explained the situation to them...they Said I could either send it in for repair, along with a check for $20-30 (something around there can't remember the exact price)...or I could send it in and exchange it for a new BMP under warranty, along with a check to cover shipping...Dude was rather rude too, and when I told him that giving them more money to fix their mistake seemed a bit ridiculous...he told me that I could simply take the pedal back to GC, and exchange it for another, and assured me that their QC was good and "all Modern Big Muffs sound identical"...despite my having gone through a stack of them, and actually heard that they did not sound identical at all, but all quite different...Oh, and the fact that one of their pedals I bought new was dead, in 2 weeks of purchase...great QC, for sure...whatever.
Either way, it was sort of complete ****...They installed a faulty component, and if I wanted them to fix their **** up (far more than a 4PDT stomp costs), I had to give them more money...So yeah, **** that...thats ****ty customer service, as far as I'm concerned...
I've had warranty issues with BBE, and MXR/Way Huge...and Both companies were great...Same exact issue with a BBE pedal (dead 4PDT switch), cept I'd bought the pedal used (which I told them), and they still sent me a new 4PDT switch to install myself...MXR/Way Huge, I got a SPmkII and the pedal simply stopped working after a few days, called them, talked to tech, they explained that this had happened before, an was due to some faulty Caps they received, and offered to either Replace the Pedal free of charge, or simply send me the "switching board" (there's three circuit boards in the SPmkII) so I could install it myself (simply connected with a PC connector thingy)...so I went with the "switching board" and they OVER NIGHTED it to me, free of charge, and then called two days later to make sure it arrived and that the pedal was working fine...then emailed me 6 months after that, to make sure stuff was still going well.......but EHX can't replace a switch unless you send them a check? Totally never buying EHX new again, I like their products, but I'm not giving them my money.
