Re: electro-harmonix graphic fuzz?
The graphic fuzz isnt a fuzz. They just call it that. It is like a crunch pedal. Musicians Friend used to have these windows videos on all of the Electro Harmonix pedals that had the guitarist for Sheryl Crow and co-founder of 65 Amps Company (I forgot his name, he's got long blonde hair) demonstrate the pedals, everything. They were actually really good. I remember coming home from school and watching two a day. They were like movies to me. Anyway, Electro Harmonix recently released a DVD that shows all of these pedal demonstrations, so Musicians Friend was forced to take them off the site which can be viewed for free.
I heard the graphic fuzz and it sounds pretty cool, but let me stress that it is not really a fuzz. You can probably screw with the EQ to get fuzzy sounds, but its not true fuzz.
I have two favorite fuzzes. One is the Fulltone Soul Bender which is perfect for lead sounds and is very much like a distortion and not over the top fuzz. And the Fulltone '69 which is a Fuzz Face clone which again, is not the fuzziest pedal ever. If you are looking for my psychadelic sounds, the AVEX Octane III is a great octave fuzz, even though the octave isnt very pronounced, the sound is very heavy and chunky. And there is of course the Fender Blender Custom Reissue, ultra Smashing Pumpkins type tone with a built in boost and a lot of octave in there. Oh, and BTW, I have my Seymour Duncan Tweak Fuzz which cannot be beat for versitility and has some good vintage styled tones. Tweak knob to the right is like a Big Muff, to the left is like a Fuzz Face or Maestro and you can vary the volume and the gain to get good solo boosts or solo tone and get a crunchy tone.
There are tons of fuzz pedals out there. It all depends on what you want. My suggestion: play some and listen to sound clips on the wbesites. Do you want a Jimi Hendrix Purple Haze type tone with subtle fuzz? Or do you want like a Band of Gypsies type octave tone? Its all what you want.
