Electro Harmonix

So I'm new to EH. I never seemed to like them in the past, and then I heard the memory man and like it, and then heard the russian big muff...and liked it...and then I heard the Germanium XO OD overdrive and have been intrigued.

any experience with the Germanium OD?

Re: Electro Harmonix

I have a few EHx pedals, but they're not my favorites. But that Germanium OD does look totally intriguing. Man, I haven't had pedal GAS in months. Thanks a lot.

Electro-Harmonix pedals seem to have a nice natural sound to them, but I like more wacky, unnatural sounds.

Re: Electro Harmonix

I thought about putting it before my Fulldrive if I get it, using it more as a fat light gain for leads and turning the FD on for some kicking solo action.
I'm pretty sure I wouldn't use it (right now) with all the different bias and voltage options...but it would be kinda cool to have it delay some of those "battery almost dead" tones.
do you think it's tones suit specific sounds and styles better than others?

Re: Electro Harmonix

Man, EH is by far my favorite pedal company. In a perfect world, most of my pedal board would be made up of their products.

If I had to give you three suggestions on which ones to check out :
- Holly grail reverb (really is the holly grail of reverb for many..)
- Metal Muff ( a good distortion that is more versatile than most would think)
- Big Muff Pi ( a classic, vintage sounding fuzz)

You get almost any vintage budget toob amp tone from yesteryear out of that much underrated OD !

Just youtube it !!!
It brings the (borrowed) Hot Rod Deluxe to live, and makes it sound like a true low budget vintage all-valve amp from the 60's !!!
One of the few pedals that * I * can NOT get a bad setting on !

Re: Electro Harmonix

I've got an Electric Mistress I picked up in 80' that sounds great!

Re: Electro Harmonix

Man, i love my nano clone chorus. I LOVE how small and simple it is, not to mention the sound is pretty great. However I am really pissed at the fact that I can't use it with my one spot and daisy chain. That really sucks. That's the case with pretty much all of their effects isn't it?

Yes it is! I am a giant EH fan, as it makes up 80% of my pedal board (everything except tuner and wah). EH pedals, including nano ones, all draw 100mA of power, making them very difficult to work with. Some of their pedals, like the holy grail plus I have, require up to 200mA. In order to make this all work, I had to go buy a voodoo labs pedal power 2 plus, which was not cheap. That to me, is the only down side to the EH family.

BTW, +1 on the nano clone being a killer pedal. So simple, yet so effective. I love mine.

i use a one spot to power my pedals, including a little big muff...am i missing something? or is an exception to their other pedals?

Re: Electro Harmonix

I'm probably going to be getting another chorus pedal, it's just too inconvenient to have to run a separate ac adapter with the one spot. That defeats the purpose of the one spot.

I don't think you are missing anything. The one spot is a 200mA rated power supply IIRC, so if your little big muff is 100mA, and the other pedals add up to less than 100 together (the average boss pedal shouldn't take more than 35mA max), you should be good. It might be noisier than isolated power supply, but that's normal.

the one spot can supply at least 1Amp. possibly 2amps. Big muff draws no more than 5mA depending on LED current draw. is the little big muff digital? I cant imagine a distorion drawing that much juice considering boss digital delays draw less than that
