Jomo's Nimions
Knew nothing about these pickups going in, just thought the name sounded cool and it’s a brand I’d never tried. Dropped them in my PRS CE24. The previous owner installed really cool black metal covers with no holes. In the black PRS, it looks like empty cavities, kinda neat.
Elysian’s bobbins are a little wider at the treble side, and the extra wire is supposed to make them sound warmer on top. Both pickups are pretty hot, but very clear. There’s also one row of Alnico slugs in each, plus a ceramic bar magnet.
The PRS is tuned down a whole step with 11-54 strings, sounds brutal with the boosted Mesa patch. The real surprise was on a Fender Deluxe setting with a Tube Screamer and a crunchy tone that’s still pretty clear. There are all sorts of P90 overtones, but they still sound big like humbuckers.
The coils having their own magnets is playing hell with the 5 way PRS rotary switch, but the middle position (one coil from each in series) sounds like a killer bridge PAF. It’s a little quieter than the neck or bridge, so there are still some phase shenanigans going on, but it’s really, really cool.
