Emergency Bass Wireing Job

Hello out there.
A great customer and friend came in today with a tough rush job.
It's a 4 string Peavey G Bass with active 1 pickup, 18 volt system'
He wants me to install a Seymour Duncan Bass Lines Black Out 2 Band EQ
that he bought from musician's friend. {ouch}
He wants me to take out the active Peavey electronics board,
but leave in the Peavey pickup.
Then he wants a new volume pot and the Seymour Duncan EQ wired in.
AND of cousre he needs it tomorrow for a gig.
My question is, is the Peavey 18volt pickup even compatable?
And is there a way to wire it in with the 9 volt EQ system?
Anybody's help with this would be GREATLY appreciated.

I take it there's nothing in the Basslines manual about an 18v wiring for the eq?

The product catalog says the STC-2 can be wired 18v for increased headroom... It does not say that for the Bass Blackout pre. :shrug:

I would say call Tech Support, and if they say no, tell your friend to order the right parts next time.

<Reads SD wiring instructions.> There is nothing in the supplied wiring instructions about 18v power. It is neither recommended nor forbidden.

The actual wiring job will be pretty simple AFTER you have worked out what needs to go where. This, of course, is the problem. Lack of time!

In your position I would either charge a premium hourly rate or decline the task, pleading lack of time. Tell the customer that you will gladly perform the mod after the impending gig. If you like, drop subtle hints about the parts having been obtained elsewhere. (Sassafrassin' Rick Rastardly!)

On a purely musician level, one has to question the wisdom of taking to the stage with a freshly modified instrument. Firstly, the musician will be unfamiliar with the new capabilities. Secondly, they will not have been thoroughly tested.

I don't think you can even buy opamps that are not 18 V safe.

The big question is whether the old pickups have have a preamp built in and an external EQ or whether the original electronics provide both amplification and EQing. You can safely exchange EQ for EQ since it's all gonna be low impedance anyway.

No way I would do this before a gig.
