Emg 60 in bridge?

I heard some people say this is an underrated bridge pick up. I'm interested at the medium output, ceramic nature of this, but also reluctant because I HATE the 81. Too harsh and lifeless. The 85 is much better as a bridge, but what about the 60? I play hard rock/ alturnative (some classic metal) and love the tone of tony iommi. The pickup is going in a les paul style guitar (same tone woods, scale, and thickness) and play either in D or D# (drop C/ C#). Any thoughts?

I thought it was okay in the bridge. I am with you in that the 85 sounds better, especially in LP style guitars. Perhaps a 60A would be more likened the 85?

Re: Emg 60 in bridge?

I tried it some time ago. Meh. It's alright. It's brighter than the 81. It's got a kinda squelchy attack too. The output is not all that lower than the 81 either. It has its own thing going on, but it's much closer to the 81 than to the 85.

Try it if you already got it. With the quick connect thing, it's not too hard.

Look at the super 77 pickups from EMG. They'll get you in the realm of 70s heavy metal your looking for.

It’s kinda boring in the bridge of my SG Jr. 85 or 81 are more exciting. Try 57/66 if you want a more vintage sound.

I have one in a Super Strat and like it. Not the warmer pickup but it cuts really well in the mix of the band. In my case I almost never play with volume knob at 10 except for heavy stuff as it sounds compressed and seems to push the preamp a bit too much. It sounds clear and open at 5 for blues/ZZ Top, 6-7 for classic rock and 8-9 for '80s rock.
It's the guitar I bring when I don't know what I will play. Jack of all trades and master of none.
