EMG 81/89 clips...

Re: EMG 81/89 clips...

Thanks for the info. I thought putting EMGs into my Ibanez would be too difficult and was not going to consider it. If going "active" is not to hard I may consider that.

It's not harder than putting in passives... The only difference is you are using a battery which will force you to solder maybe 3-4 connections extra.
Otherwise there's not any harder to install them...
It's much more to solder if you buy a "splittable" humbucker, but that is the case with passives too...
Also, with EMG's all the pots you need are included so you don't have to worry about choosing the right ones for them...
Good luck! :burnout:

They sound great dude! I have been jonesing for an 85/60 set in one of my guitars. I am dying to try actives.....everyone talks about how thick and rich they can sound clean and dirty.

Do that! I suppose you're planning on putting the 60 in the neck? My 89 is supposed to be a 85 in humbucker-mode... altough my 89 is in the neck.
Too bad the fast-connectors on the 89 and 81 are different, or I could have provided you with samples of the 85 in the bridge... I don't wanna resolder anything right now. :blackeye:

I was planning on going 81/60, but the versality of the 89 changed my mind. Would love to try out the 60 sometime though...

hmmm I'd really like to hear a 60A. I've got a 85/81 set coming this next week from the harmony central board for my agile baritone (still need to find a place to buy a SA really cheap for the middle pickup. Luckily my baritone come with no name actives so I've already got a battery slot ready with easy access, but perhaps I might want to try the 18 route...anybody noticed a difference? The guy with the 18 mod, how does teh 60/81 combo sound? I'm kinda looking for a chevelle rhythm tone with this baritone and i've got a mesa rectoverb on the way (yes i know he used mark IVs :) )

not bad dude...i'm not a huge fan of EMG pickups...to my ear, there's always something a little thin or lacking with them..but you're getting a really good tone..especially on the leads..love the stereo FX you got goin' there...

what kinda rig you runnin?

Re: EMG 81/89 clips...

What ya running there? Guitar rig? I've been quite satisfied with my emgs.

Re: EMG 81/89 clips...

Thanks guys...
Well, I use a POD 2 straight into the computer, record it with Cubase and use no software-fx at all. There's no miked amps or anything.
I also love the Lead-sound, that's also the only one of these three clips I tweaked some... On the clean there was no tweaking at all, and on Dirty I just added som distortion and reverb.

I've tried GuitarRig, but can't seem to find a good distorted sound with it, some nice clean ones though. But I tend to go back to my POD anyway.
I'ts made for direct recording into the pc and I think the amp-simulator works pretty great? :13:
