EMG combos...

i had to put my new jackson kelly performer in the shop and it turns out the pups died already... it was used tho so thats ok, good invesment... anywho, which EMG combo should i go with?

60/85

or 60/89 if you want to have a really killer single coil tone in the bridge, also.

+ 1 on the 60/89. The a bit higher costs for the 89 is greatly outweighed by it's greater variety of tone.

After reading this post I did a little research on the EMG 89 and I'm abit confused by what I read. Am i right in thinking you need a push/pull volume knob to utilize both modes?
"a push/pull volume or tone enables you to switch from the alarity of the sc to the fatness of a humbucking"

Just interested since I really need to replace my EMG-Hz from my Jackson DKMG and SLSMG!

60 in the neck or bridge? Also does the 89 use the quick connect? Thought I heard somewhere it's wired differently anyhow...correct me Zerb.

It does use the quick connect, but it's wired differently, and isn't interchangable, which makes the quick connect kind of useless.

I just saw a pic of the quick connect and it looks a little different anyway. I'll stick with the 85 in the bridge.

Well, if you get a 60 for the neck, you'll have no desire to swap around.

I'm still tellin ya man, you'll thank yourself for getting that extra versitility.



Its so great when I show up with a warlock, and my cleans kick the strats and teles asses's. The guy who installed the pickups called it the "BC Rich Stratocaster" after he played it.

I'm thinking about swapping my pickups in my guitar with EMG 81/81.

My question, will the 81's sound right without a tone pot? My guitar currently has 1 vol, 1 tone, but I'd like to scratch a tone pot out (as I almost never use it; if I do, it's because I'm curious in what it will sound like, and then I realize I like it better maxed open). Does anyone find advantages to 2 volume controls and no tone pot?

Also.. I have a question on the tone of 81/81. My guitar is all mahogany (a Les Paul weight) with a maple top. How might that sound..?

Yes, but EMG supplies all necessary pots and wiring with their pickups. :D

Never tried the 60 as a bridge, but considering I´m a Custom /EMG 89 user for the most part I doubt I´d like it much..

And DSS is right, the 89 uses the quick connect... but the joke is that IIRC it´s hookup isn´t compatible to the others because of the extra wires. :smack:

Emgs will work without a tone pot just like any other pickup.. you´ll just have added highs like on any other pickup ;)
