EMG equipped guitars and replacements

 Hey guys. Any of you know of any guitars that come stock with an EMG 81?

Any of you know what might be a similarly eq'd, but equally high powered replacement?

:) Thank you.

Re: EMG equipped guitars and replacements

i like my mustaines better, they are way higher output IMO, too high for my pedals i have to turn the volume pot down quite a ways to get the same gain as the maxed emg 81 (which was modded for 18v btw) i loved the EMGs but the string noise was getting on my nerves big time and wanted something a little more organic (which they are) Im not sure if i will sell the EMGs though because i am so used to them

If you went back to 9v, the 81 would sound gainier.

Re: EMG equipped guitars and replacements

All the 400 level LTD and above come with active EMGs in them unless they're SD models or Alexi Laiho's puny HZ.

Theres some Gibson les paul with no finish, cant remember its name right now.

Well then you must know that the only reason Alexi uses the HZ is because he uses a gain booster, and through his setup actives sound too distorted.

lol, that's such a dumb solution. His tone is terrible anyway so I don't know why anyone would ever want to 'emulate' it :laugh2:

I don't really find many tones out of EMG's not interesting!Marty Friedman's tone with one JB still owns so many hi-gain guitars ,i can't really believe that people still try to go with 81.The 60 is the only EMG i would recommend ,but i never tried the 89 tho.

Re: EMG equipped guitars and replacements

My Edwards Eclipse clone came with TWO 81's. I got rid of one of them for a 60A instead. Also added the RPC and SPC. Like all the changes thus far. Not quite as versatile as I thought it would be, but still very nice.
