EMG Pickup connectors

Anyone know what this type of connector that EMG uses on their pickups is called and where I can get them?

Re: EMG Pickup connectors

Good question.....the connector is essentially identical to the ones on many internal USB devices for PCs.... Comp USA or Radio Shack might be a good place to start... ;)

EMG calls the system "QuickConnect".... What I´m wondering though is what you plan on doing, as the EMG electronics aren´t really compatible with any passive PUs.....

I want to fit something similar onto my own pickups so I can swap them without desoldering and resoldering. I would cut my pickup leads to around 3-4 inches and solder in a male connector and put the female in the pup cavity.

The best thing I had found so far was a 5 pin mini DIN, but that might be too tight of a fit in the pup cavity.

USB... Hmmmm

Re: EMG Pickup connectors

If you´re just wanting to do something similar, ther is a plethora of small-scale electronics connectors you could use... Radio Shack ;)

I just wish I could find them. I've been to 3 Radio Shacks. None have anything small enough. Any of the industrial sites (Mouser, etc) I've found either do not show images of the items or only sell in quantity. If I could just find a female shell similar to EMG's and a male harness /connector I'd build it. Can you point me in the right direction?

thx

Re: EMG Pickup connectors

I wish I could.. I get small electronics parts from a local specialty dealer (essentially Sadio Shack, lol), and figured your chances would be best there.....

Though what you could also try are the "bullet" connectors often used in older cars.... or battery connectors for an R/C car, maybe....

Re: EMG Pickup connectors

If you're going to go the connector route make sure you buy a can of contact cleaner to go with it. That stuff works so well I still almost don't believe it. It worked getting the road salt off of several abused bare connector ends/wires connecting a salt spreader to a truck wiring harness at work; which was really causing problems come snow time. If it worked well for that and cleaning potentiometers I can't imagine there would be any signal degradation compared to soldered connections...as long as you gave em a spray every now and again.

Re: EMG Pickup connectors

What are you going to plug the male end into? Also will this work as an audio cable since it is designed for USB 1.1 and USB 2.0?

If you are referrring to the cable 3th3r directed me to, I would remove the connectors from the provided cable, solder one connector to the pickup end of the lead and the other to the guitar side of the wiring. In otherwords, it would be spliced into the pickup wire within the pickup cavity.
