EMG - Red

I visited EMG's website a bit back and found the separate section for "red" pickups a bit confusing; now it seems these are discontinued?

Were these just red pickup covers? Or was the "red series" something different on its own? Can't find much info now.

They make the 57 & 66 in red and I believe the other one you're thinking of is the Glen Tipton and Gary Holt Sig sets.

Holt had them do red for his "pizza" guitar, then they decided to do them as a set. Tipton's came after IIRC, but same thing without the pizza.

You can get a few pickups including the X series in Red as well.

Was there actually a “red” series before?

They were regular EMGs with red covers, absolutely nothing special at all

EMG states the Tipton Vengeance sig set are tweaked 81s.
The Holt set are a regular 81 and 89.
