Does anyone know about how good these single coils are?

Cheers

Re: Emg Sa?

They are pretty good for soling and finger picking in the middle and neck position. I have two in those positions in my jackson soloist sl1 (1992 version). My bridge humbucker is an 81. SA/SA/81 is one of EMGs popular sets. In the soloist the 2 SA pups are not too bassy or muddy at all. In fact the 5,4,3,2 positions on the 5-way switch all sound somewhat similar--thus enforcing the charge that emgs are sterile. Still I like SA/81 combo--great for metal and lots of sustain.

Here is emg's description:
"The EMG-SA pickup combines the attributes of the early Strat* sound but with an added midrange response and higher output, giving it "bell-like" ringing harmonics and increased sustain. One single Alnico bar magnet delivers classic overdrive with a smooth midrange distortion, while still retaining the familiar high-end of a single-coil pickup. These characteristics provide greater versatility than what is normally found in single-coil pickups. Favorites of Steve Lukather and David Gilmour just to name two, the EMG-SA is our most popular pickup for Stratocaster* type guitars."

Hi Bubba, thanks for checking the site, im well chuffed lol- people rarely venture there :D I maintain it myself and its rare to get a complement :burnout:

Ah im not a very good guitarist, but thanks for the complement lol- ive been playing for 5 years so far and started when i was about 14 at Christmas when i asked for an electric guitar! I guess i could be a lot better if i had the time, as i only get <2 hours a day to practice if that :smack:

As for speed, i studied a lot of Iron Maiden, and Michael Angelo- he's the best place to learn from, the master of speed. I figured even if i can't get as fast as him yet, then i should still get pretty darn fast eventually! If you need excercises, advice, tabs or backing tracks, i would be glad to help!

Cheers,

Kev

Re: Emg Sa?

emg SA's are nice pickups which are very good for ultra clean sounds and react well to distortion. What i don't like very much about them is that they don't do very well that "clean but dirty" sound under mild overdrive settings.
