EMG set question

Better how? If the EMG tone is what he's after, there's nothing that's gonna be better. If somebody told you they wanted a vintage amp, and was looking at a Fender, would you say "No, buy a Vox. They're so much better"? No, because they're different.

BTW, Harrison, the 85 is Alnico 5, not A2.

Its something personal of course, i find (for example) SH-5 better than all EMG magnets..(for heavy metal) although its passive, for me its better.

I forgot to write "for me" i think thats the problem.. But as i am the one who writes the post, i dont think that i should add everytime "for me" or "in my opinion"

I use EMG also, my main idea was Seymour Duncan has much more selective models when i compare with EMG (thats also in my opinion)

Re: EMG set question

I used 85 with a Jackson soloist, and used Custom with Gibson Explorer and Ibanez RG.. EMg 85 has another taste of course but among the Duncans it carries the smilar character with Duncan Custom..

And Jb is smilar to EMG 81 in my opinion..

For SG as i have written, if the EMG is a "must".. I`d prefer 85 in Bridge and 60 in neck..

When i use Duncans, i`d go with Duncan custom in bridge and 59 or Jazz in neck.. for heavy sound..

Yeah I have been gassing for the 89 suppose to be like a better 85 and splittable! Hmm.....Is this hard to wire?

Well, I think there's 5-6 extra cables to solder. It's not very hard though, I got a specially made scheme from EMG-support for the configuration on my guitar... If you can solder, it's a piece of cake.

So far im noticing with this 85 in the bridge of my Les Paul im still getting that vintage tone but to the 10th power...maybe thats why I don't hear the sterileness people talk about...Could be the mags of the 85.

I think it's the fatness.

The 81 has so much high and upper mids, with next to no bottom end....which is great for clarity under high gain, but it does make it rather sterile when used clean......but then again, the same is true for pretty much any pickup that's voiced with all highs and no lows.

P.S. - Neither my 81 or 85 sound (or more importantly, feel) anything like a JB. They're definatly different monsters.
