EMG switches & pots...

I'm getting ready to rip the pair of EMG 81's out of the ESP and put REAL pickups in there. :blackeye:

I know the pots need to be replaced, but what about the 3-way switch? It's a regular toggle, LP/335 setup.

Thanks.

Re: EMG switches & pots...

You can keep the Toggle, it's the same on passives. On passives you need 500 KOhm pots, some use 250 KOhms on Tone but i wouldn't recommend.
the EMG pots have 25 KOhm as far as I know. Unsatisfied with the 81?

Re: EMG switches & pots...

Yeah, I can't stand EMG's.

Tried 'em a few times and they never really work for me. Studio stuff is different, and I may keep the 81's for some whack-o thing but in general I'm playing through a couple three stompboxes and into a AC30TB or a '62 Bandmaster & 2x12 with Greenbacks.

Thanks for the info.

What's gonna be your replacement for the 81, I mean it's rather a Hi-gain pickup. Your equipment to me doesn't sound like you're rather into Metal etc. or am I wrong?

Re: EMG switches & pots...

While you're buying parts you'll want to pick up a new jack as well, unless you don't mind the stereo jack. The switch is fine.

500k is generally preferred for humbuckers, although there are instances in which you might use a 250k or a 300k.

And EMGs are REAL pickups. You just don't like them (I thought that's what you meant to say).
