EMG with passive

Ok guys, dont fail me now...I need to know your opinions on this. I have a ZW set of EMG's coming but I"m using only one EMG in the bridge of my Les Paul Triple Pickup Black Beauty, the other one will be given to my brother so he can do the same with his. What pickup is better for a lead tone with plenty of crunch? 81 or the 85?? I have wiring schematics for combining the actives and passives. Whats your opininion on this? Good idea? Bad? I want EMG dist. sound but will not give up my passive clean sound. I like it too much, hence this arrangement. :saeek: :thanks:

I'm still waiting on an answer for that myself. But my guess is the 81 has more crunch.

No, they were hand written for me, but the EMG website will tell you how.

Just because it can be done doesn't mean it should be done. I always suggest keeping guitars all active or all passive. Mixing active and passive pickups is somewhat of a headache and never works out as wonderful as some folks believe it might.

The problem is i have two solutions for mixing emg's with passives and i don't know which one is the one to use.
The 1st one is:
Use a 25K EMG pot with 100n capacitor in the tone circuit assigned to EMG, and assign the singles pu´s to the other (250K). Use the original master volume pot (250K) and put a 27K resistor paralelled between the hot and ground in the EMG for emulate the 25K suggested value in combination with the 250K pot. This maintais 250K value for the singles and 24.3K for the EMG. This is the system.
The original tone in second position is lost, but you can connect the singles pu´s out of phase with respect to the EMG to obtain an interesting sound (thinner than the one of the first position and good for rythmn with overdrive).
The second one was the emg support suggestion(it's in a .pdf file)

Could anyone with a certain experience in wiring take a look on these two posibilities and express his opinion in which one is the better one?
