EMG's in a 335 type guitar?

i just had this thought right now... how do u guys think it would sound or which emgs in it... say maybe a 60/81?.. any thoughts on this... as in different pups from emg.. or a bad idea all in all?

it's possible, but it'd look like cack tbh dude :laugh2:

if i had a thinline hollowbody and *had* to put emgs in, i'd probably go for either 89/60 or 60/60.. you'd have to keep it as vintage sounding as possible really!

You'd be better off with Antiquities or Seths in that type of guitar.

Seriously? I see no reason it wouldn't work. You've got plenty of room for your battery(ies), though you might have to do some minor permanent modification to it to keep it(them) from rattling around. I'm not really sure how it would souns.

lol, do you like feedback THAT much?

i know of people who've put super distortions in semi-hollow bodies, and the tone has been good, but the feedback is nearly impossible to control at high gain

now if you put something even HOTTER in a FULL HOLLOW guitar... i personally wouldnt advise it

That's the kind of thing I would do. Probably an 85 bridge/60A neck combo. I find EMG's to be flat, clean and tight with no honks or howls- just the perfect compliment to the warmth of a semi-hollow. They're high output, sure, but that just means better S/N ratio and a lower gain setting on the amp. Oh, yeah, and the volume controls work right all the way down to 1....

No tone for one of the most toneful guitar designs ever made. Take the tone right out.....why bother. Just my opinion......

There are advantages to an EMG type setup but they just have no tone. It would be very difficult to replace the batteries. You would have to cut a hole in the back and make an access door. That means hacking it.....glad it's not a Gibson, than you would be a butcher...:-)

I'm sure there are better ways to achieve whatever you are trying. But like ParameterMan says it does have advantages over passive pickups.

EMG's have tone! Arg! :D And I like it as well. I believe you could fish the battery through the lower f-hole. Just attach a loop of something or anything that could act as a handle when the time comes to get it back out.

i'm still doing my best to picture what this would look like- dont emgs only come in black and white? even bare bobbins looks weird to me on 335s!

You can always get the 25th anniversary ones. They have chrome covers. And sweet they look, too.
