I recently swooped up a set of EMG's. An 81 and an 85. Currently, I have the 81 in the bridge of an ESP LTD F-100 (agathis body) and it sounds massive! When I bought the guitar, it had a Dimebucker in it and it was ok. I tried putting an Invader in it but that was an exercise in futility. Next a Distortion. Poop is the only way to describe it. All passive so my only option was to go active. Way glad I did 'cause now I love the sound of it! I tried the EMG's in my basswood Dean ML Undertaker and for some reason, they didn't sound so good. I put the Distortion in the bridge of the Dean and that was the right combination for tone perfection (super high gain). Some say the EMG's sound "sterile". I don't think that is the right word. They are way sensitive and catch more subtle nuances in one's playing and to me, that is good 'cause it cleans up one's playing alot. Not to mention they sound freakin' awesome with mega-gain and tuned down. No mud anywhere! Maybe they're not for everybody but they are for me! Thank you Deadskinslayer for your undying love for these pups. Your adament support for them was one of the reasons I got em. Thanx for reading.
