Hi, I bought a pair of used EMG's, a set of 81/85, but it arrived with only two wires each, a white and a bare one, isn't there suppose to be a third red wire for the battery?

That does sound funny. Can you post a pic of the pickups with the bottom sides facing up?

Re: EMG's with only two wires?

You bought counterfeits. Congrats.

Seriously, though...send 'em back. Hopefully you weren't trying to save a couple bucks by buying from Aliexpress, etc.

Yeah, they have to have 3 wires, one hot, one ground, and one for battery.. And all of the recent ones (last 15 years or so) have quick connect prongs/wiring..

Re: EMG's with only two wires?

Thanks, I couldn't find any info on this "scam" but the pictures on eBay showed the quick connect versions and it didn't arrive with the pots and such so the eBay money back guaranty thing should have my back.

Re: EMG's with only two wires?

Actually old-school EMG before quick connect did only have 2 wires. But it should be a red and a white one. The white one should also have a bare one sort of connected to it, kinda like Gibson style. Here's a picture of one I have laying around

i have a 81 like that too. the bare shield is the ground, white is hot, and red is battery so there are still really three wires.

Re: EMG's with only two wires?

Exactly... the OP's 2-wire versions are common counterfeits. Not active at all.

I see them a lot and try to report them when I can, but you know...China
