folks

i am looking at a light weight speaker solution so i was investigating the eminence lil texas and tonkerlite speakers

i have relatively low grade computer speakers so the samples on the website dont sound that different to me ...

i'd be grateful if folks could listen to the two and let me know what differences, if any, you hear

lil texas samples on this page http://www.eminence.com/speakers/spe...l=Lil_Texas_16

tonkerlite samples on this page

also, i'd be grateful if folks with 'in person' listening /playing experience with one or both of them could share their opinions ...

thanks

Re: eminence lil texas and tonkerlite - can you hear differences?

I don't have any experience with those particular speakers, but I have to say that the clips on Eminence's website really don't do the speakers justice. They're a great company, nice people to deal with, and I've bought several of their speakers. But the demo of all of the different speakers at NAMM was jaw-dropping; I never realized how much they can change your tone. Unfortunately, the web clips don't do a good job of reflecting this. And, of course, the speakers will always sound different in your particular amp with your guitar/rig. I've been really happy with everything I've gotten from them, I don't think you can really go wrong if you follow the descriptions.

Re: eminence lil texas and tonkerlite - can you hear differences?

thanks mike

part of me thought a 2x12" with one of each would be a good blend

if i had to choose just one, it'd be tough

for me, its all about the neo mag for light weight ... and the jensens (neo, tornado) get good reviews too ...

you are so right about how so much depends on the individual playing/guitar/rig/etc that buying speakers is really a crap shoot

and that goes double for me cus i am looking for a set up that will sound good with both a S-S-S and a H-H guitar ... so i almost think that almost anything will be good enough and i'll end up needing to tweak it all with the amp EQ anyway

unless i go with a 2 amp setup - 1 optimised for S-S-S and another optimised for H-H :D

but that would defeat the lightweight / easy to load-in/load-out objective

we'll see

Re: eminence lil texas and tonkerlite - can you hear differences?

I had an amp here with a Lil Texas for a while...used it in m2 of my amps also.

Cool speaker overall my only niggle is that, based on the ones I've tried neo magnet speakers seems to have a top end clarity no other speaker has and after a while to me it became a bit strident.

Now, let me also add that the 3 amps I tried the Lil Texas in were all 3 vintage, single tone control amps...that extra bit of top might have been easy to dial out with something besides a simple treble roll off control but I never tried it in an amp with full tone controls.

Now, that out of the way...again, great speaker...loud, punchy and very toneful plus SUPER light weight!

Re: eminence lil texas and tonkerlite - can you hear differences?

I swapped tonkerlite for the cheap celestion seventy 80’s in my Fender Mustang IV.

The tonkerlite speakers are a little bright, but much lighter than carrying all the other gear, so I make slight adjustments in the tone stack.

I use the Fender Mustang IV power amp section with my Eleven Rack at smaller gigs (Instead of the EV SxA250 & QSC K12’s and K-Sub combination that get used at larger gigs).

That comparison was very cool/interesting. It's making me rethink my idea of mixing the Govenor and Wizard ...
