rather than carrying an attenuator around it seems like this might be a nice option. I thought I recalled someone having one?

Re: eminence maverick or reignmaker, anyone have experience with one?

I've had a reingmaker for 2 years in a 1x12 cab.
It's not as midrange-y as a v30 but it's a very good brit speaker nonetheless.
The FMD works well, it does remove some highs and high-mids but it's not hard to compensate witht the amp's eq unless it's an already dark amp.

Be aware that some of these speakers have some mechanical noise with the attenuation maxed so test it thoroughly after installing it. It's supposed to be a known problem even if it's not a common one.

All in all they're not that popular but quite worth it imho.

great thanks!

how big was the range of volume?

I'm not sure how I could translate that in words other than the attenuation that's touted by Eminence for these... however, it's definitely noticeable does make an appreciable difference. If I remember well you play mostly tweed amps and low wattage ones no? You'll definitely notice it then for sure.
Sorry for not being of more help in that regard but I'm afraid I can't put it in words and I haven't measured anything...
