Eminence speakers British and American

Ain't I full of question lately?

The whole American and British voicing to speakers... what qualities do a speaker need to have to fall under each category?

And, if you drive a British voiced amp through an American speaker... will it make him more American? will it just be a sad failure in terms of tone? will it give any interesting tonal results?

Re: Eminence speakers British and American

I'm not sure on making it sound more American, but it definetly won't be a tonal failure. Duane Allman put his Marshall's through Jensen speakers, and he had one of the most heavenly Marshall tones I've ever heard!

Yea and i remember that Jeff Beck had his marshalls go thru fender speaker-cabs.

This is how I hear it:

Brit cones are usually kind of dark and midrangey with a tight bottom. Yank cones have sparkle and chime on the top end, a slight scoop to the mids, and a bottom end that seems to bloom.

As far as mixing amps with trans-atlantic speakers, it works. I use my BF Bassman with Celestion loaded Marshall cabs and it sounds great.

Re: Eminence speakers British and American

I have my Laney(a brit amp) run through a 3/4 stack that uses only Eminence Patriot and Legend series speakers(the US voiced) and it works great, it adds to the versatility of tone. You can dial in thick midrange bite or pump up the bass for grunge tones. I also have my combo run through a Redcoat series 10" and it is great too. It has a different feel to it and I find it lacks in the low-end, though this is expected from a 10".

Didn't ****ey betts use JBL's and the 100 watt marshall, and duane used a stock marshall cab and 50 watt plexi, hence duane's dirtier, thicker tone, and ****ey's more percussive cleaner tone?
