Eminence Swamp Thang Vs Texas Heat

I'm pretty much thinkin that I'm gonna swap out the speakers in my ear candy as soon as I get a couple of pieces of gear sold. I'm not diggin too much on the Govenor/Screamin Eagle combo. Maybe I'm just moving away from the sound. But I want something with a smoother top-end and mids, as what I've got right now is just a little too harsh.

Anybody tried mixing the two? I need a little more bass response outta my cab too.

Anywho, if anybody could tell me of their experiences with either speaker, I would be greatly appreciative :).

Re: Eminence Swamp Thang Vs Texas Heat

A nice little follow-up. I guess I don't actually have a Govenor in my cab, I've got a freaking wizard! Guess Tim got the speaker selection wrong...I had been considering a Govenor/Wizard setup, but he advised against it. We had gone through a few more combos before deciding on a Govenor/Screaming eagle.

Eh, either way, it'll be out of here soon.

Re: Eminence Swamp Thang Vs Texas Heat

from what i hear the screamin eagle is more like an early 60's jensen or whatever they came with mixed with a v30

but from what i know of the swamp it is the fullest sounding speaker out there. Frequency-wise it goes lower than any other guitar speaker available, and it's all just smoothness. 4 of them in a cab would be a terrible idea though

anyhoo, that sounds like a good combo, i think the eagle would be movin in the wrong direction though

Re: Eminence Swamp Thang Vs Texas Heat

That's what I'm sayin, I got a Wizard/Eagle combo right now, but it just ain't jivin' with me. I'm tryin to decide if I'm gonna want a heat/thang combo, or if I wanna load up the cab with two of either. Or something else. I dunno.

Re: Eminence Swamp Thang Vs Texas Heat

Im in the honeymoon phase now with a Texas Heat and really like it. Pretty even EQ, very full sounding and can handle a lot off bass. No harsh tones and still sparkles very well in the top end. I was thinking of the Swamp Thang too but came across this first.

Re: Eminence Swamp Thang Vs Texas Heat

I'm afraid that goin for a swamp thang might be a little bit of a knee-jerk reaction. I mean, the wizard/eagle combo is pretty lacking in bass, though the design of the cab makes up for that a little. Though the description is a little intriguing. I know I've seen a few eminence speakers used over at guitar showcase, I might try going through those and seeing what I can find.

Cannabis Rex all the way, baby! The best sounding guitar speakers ever made.

Re: Eminence Swamp Thang Vs Texas Heat

I got the lil buddy in my 2X10 cabinet that I use with my old fender showman. I had always thought that that was a 10" version of the cannabis rex...but by looking at their site it doesn't look like that's the case. Either way, those lil buddies are likely gonna get swapped out soon for a pair of copperheads or ragin cajuns.

I'm glad that eminence put up soundclips for their speakers though. I'm liking the rex, the thang, and the heat. I wish I could afford to try 'em all out.

Re: Eminence Swamp Thang Vs Texas Heat

i've got a pair of Texas Heat in my twin reverb and they sound great. Fairly even sounding across all frequencies, with plenty adequate bass. Very chimey high end, not too shrill

Re: Eminence Swamp Thang Vs Texas Heat

If it was cost effective,I'd let you try mine. Its not seeing much use now anyway.

Re: Eminence Swamp Thang Vs Texas Heat

you want to ditch any of those lil buddies let me know...

I just picked up a pair of used copperheads over at the local music store, so if I end up liking these you might get a PM ;)

I picked up a used Texas Heat over at the music store too. an 8 ohm version though, not a 16 ohm version. I need a 16 for my ear candy.

But, anywho, I put that one into my Hughes and Kettner, which used to have a wizard in it. First impressions are very good...it really tamed the high-end in this amp. The wizard was ridiculously bright in this amp...it made the crunch channel practically unplayable. The heat's got a much deeper bottom-end to it, and just a little bit of "sparkle" on the top end...very nice.

For my purposes...It seems to have a deep enough bottom-end to it. I'd like to see how it sounds with the Roadster and the Mark IV. I'm pretty sure I'll end up with at least one in my cab. I dunno if going with a swamp thang as the second speaker would be overkill though, considering the HUGE bottom end on my Roadster.

How are they handling power? I have a pine 1x12 cab with a Red Fang that distorts too early with my 5W head. I'm searching for a replacement speaker for crystal cleans and a salesman suggested the Texas Heat.

Texas Heat gets 150 watts RMS. It'll laugh at your 5 watt head's attempts to distort it.
