Eminence Texas Heat vs Swamp Thang?

I have 2 governors and a wizard. I want to mix either the 2 governors or a governor and a wizard on the top row of a Mesa 4x12 with 2 swamp thangs or 2 texas heats. Maybe even one of both? Whats the tonal differences in the 2 and what would go well with my governors or a wizard/governor mix?

Seriously man, I don't think you can go wrong with an X pattern of speakers like int he Bogner Uber cab. I'm fairly familiar with eminence speakers, but if you said what kinda amp you are running it would help.

Mesa rectifier, Voodoo modded. I have been mixing the swamp thang, governor, wizard, manowar, tonker, Celestion g12k100 in my mesa cab. I dont like the swamp thang/governor mix but love the swamp thang wizard. The highs could be duller and I am wondering about the texas heat with the governor or wizard mixed. I like the manowar with the governor as well (copy of the ubercab)

I really like the Governors, and I still like the older V12. Curious as to your take on the Governor vs. the Wizard, as well as the Texas Heat.

What I like about the V12 and the Governor is the midrange is so fat, with nice tight bass. To me, the secret to good tone is in the midrange (I like 80's fusion guitar, blah, blah... lol)

The V12 is a killer tone for distortion, but it doesn't have enough clean "chime" for my tastes, but the Governors fixed that.

I'm also interested in the Texas Heats, because they look like they have nice midrange response, but maybe not as much bass as the Gov's or the V12.

From what I've seen of the Swamp Thing, it's more of a Low/High speaker, with the mids scooped, so I'm not sure I'll like it. Be interested to hear your opinions on the different Eminence speakers... Thanks in advance!

I just did soundclips last night that I will be giving to Eminence soon. I played Deftones (change) Slipknots (duality) and some original riffs all to a click so you can download them and mix together any comination in time. My favorite mix is 2 fovernors with a manowar and red ryder on the bottom of a 4x12. second fav mix is 2 wizards on top and 2 swamp thangs on the bottom. I dont find the swamp thang to be scooped but a tad dark but it has a raunch to it that I like and a little high spike that I hope goes away. It does cut thru the mix though. I think the texas sounds the best by itself then mixed with the manowaror governor for a evil grindy sound. The wizard has a very high spikey thing that is a little annoying and I hope it goes away with time. Th swamp thang has the most bass output a little dark but a higher frequency than the texas heat. The texas heat has the lowest frequency of all the eminence I tried at 79. 1 lower than my Celestion g12k100 speakers that I found to be great for thumpin metal chugs. The texas is only 99 DB where the others are at 102 DB with the exception of the wizard at 103 DB. I have not tried the V12 as I heard it was buzzy up top. The tonker mixed with the texas heat is the best clean tone I ever heard. I dont play that much clean stuff so after buying 12 new speakers over the last 2 weeks I will be selling the tonker and texas 8 ohms. if your interested.

I am running that same combo in my 2x12 cab. The Swamp Thang gives you TONS of lowend and lower mids plus good warm highs and the the Texas Heat gives you a much more even EQ that adds to the upper mids and nice warm high end. Personally I really like the combo

Interesting. Buzzy is the last word I would use for my V12. The high end only specs to 4.5 khz, so it is an excellent choice for *removing* buzz from amps that tend to sound shrill. Also, the V12 is rated at 120 watts, so you need to pump it hard to get it to flub. I got one as a replacement for a Peavey Revolution 112 combo that had cooked it's original 70 watt Sheffield (leave it to Peavey to put a low efficiency 70 watt speaker in an 80 watt 112 combo...), and while the clean lost a little bit of sparkle, the lead tone is light years better. It breaks up and starts singing with the master at around 7 or 8. With a compressor, the clean sound is decent too, but I think that might be partly the amp too. Any inherent solid-state buzz from that amp is now gone. I've used that little Revo side-by-side with Mesa Boogie combos, and the lead tone is totally there.

The V12 is really the first speaker that got me to start looking at Eminence. When the Governor came out, I happened to be in the market for a pair of Vintage 30s (more highs = better clean sparkle than the V12), but Dave at Avatar talked me into giving the Governor's a try. I did and I love 'em. I ended up getting a pair of V30s too (never enough toys... lol) so I could compared the V30s with the Governors under my Yamaha DG130 head. I honestly think that the Governor just sounds more alive, with more presence, and every bit as sweet as the V30s too, but not quite as dark.

After trying them both, I honestly prefer the Governor over the V30. I still prefer the V30 over the V12, but the V12 is a better choice for 112 combos because of the higher power rating.

If they were cars, the V30 would be a Jag, the Governor a 'Vette, and the V12 would be like a Camaro, if that makes any sense... lol

What about a 4X12 cabinet that incorporated two V12s and two Govenors? Will they mix to give a good blend of each?

Here's my limited take. I'm not much for mixing the reds with the blues. I like my speakers to either have british or american flavor. Not both.

I have a set of Texas Heats in my old Pro Reverb and they kick butt. I had one in a deluxe reverb and liked it a lot as well.

I'd either go american or go british, but probably not both. Just not pleasing to my ears.

that all said, I had the two Mojo speakers arrive, but no amp to put them into yet! I got a greenback copy and a g12H30 copy. The price was right. One or the other will be going into my matchless clone soon.

I am mixing 2 wizards and 2 swamp thangs in one cab and a red ryder/ manowar on the bottom of another cab with 2 governors up top. So far so good. The swamp thangs and wizards are alot louder than the other cab..
