Eminence versions of Greenback and V30??

I know the Emi Private Jack is their version of the Greenback. (right??)
What is their version of the V30?

Can anyone tell me in a nutshell what the differences are tween them and the Celestions?
Greenback vs Private Jack?
V30 vs ?

I have a Carvin 4x12 that Id like to do a speaker swap on and do the classic v30/Greenback x pattern. Or, all greens, But, Im considering using Emi for lower cost. I know they are not direct equivalents, so thats why Im asking.. Thanks!

Eminence Legend GB128 is another that get's called a GB "clone". Neither it nor the Private Jack are exact clones but you could probably start a forum war on which one is clonier.

Is clonier a word? :boggled:

The Governor, CV-75, and V12 are all V30-inspired. None are clones. They are all "V30 with some tweaks" kinda deal.

The Governor has more bottom-end and high-end fizz than the V30, but less strident upper-mid spike. It's also more efficient.

The V12 has less bottom-end and more high-end fizz, but less strident upper-mid spike.

The CV-75 has less high-end and high-mid harshness. It's also more efficient.

I haven't played Governors enough to say how they compare to V30s. Private Jacks sound like a higher wattage greeenback; they have better clarity and my favorite feature is that they get tighter rather than looser when pushed. They also sound really good in an open back cabinet; I've used them that way for years with both Boogies and Marshalls. Once I get that cab out of storage I'll be pairing it with my Egnater Tweaker.

You didn't ask about them, but I'm a big fan of Emi Wizards which are their take on G12H30s. I've owned a '78 Marshall 4x12 loaded with blackback H30s since the fall of 2001 and it's a great sounding box if a bit heavy. I replaced it with a ported 2x12 loaded with Wizards in June 2007 and haven't looked back. The new cabinet weighs only 55lbs loaded and sounds almost identical to the 4x12 if slightly brighter and less compressed.

Actually V12 is quite bottom heavy, very well defined over the spectrum. Lot of low mids, with very smooth and clear highs, kind of flat overall. I found it really boring... But I guess it might work to balance very high mids heavy amp.

Yes, V12s are very much like that . ↑↑↑ They work well with mid heavy amps and amps with a big bottom end. They also hand very high levels of gain very well.

If it were me, I would look at the WGS British variants before the Eminence ones...

Thanks for offering that up! Im not limited to what I listed, I just didnt know to ask about any others as Im not well versed in speaker swap. Only one Ive ever done is put a Private Jack in my PV Classic 30

Louder. When you plug your amp without changing any settings, you would notice a Governor is louder than the V30, for example.

IMO, the higher efficiency rating of the Governor is a bit deceiving when comparing it to the V30.
The Governor has reduced/smoothed out upper mids and treble spike, whereas the V30 has a strident amount of them. That gives the V30 the perception of being just as loud or louder than the Governor.

I disagree. Having had them side by side, I could definitely tell the Governor was louder. And yes, the Governor has less upper mids, but it has more high-end fizz. Honestly, I wasn't a fan of the Governor. In the room, it sounds alright, but once you throw a mic in front of it, it reveals a ton of fizz, a scratchy attack, and hollow mids. I hear the CV75 is better, though. Each to his own. :)

I just feel that at very loud band levels, as opposed to controlled studio or bedroom volumes, the accentuated upper mids and treble sting from the V30 give the perception of being just as loud to the human ear or even louder than the Eminence, when in actuality it may not be.

The Governor and Legend V12 are both in the V30 ballpark. The Governor is the warmer and slightly looser of the two while the V12 is tighter.

The Private Jack and the Legend GB12 are their Greenback types, and the same difference applies as I stated above.

Wouldn’t it cost you less to buy some used Celestions? Unless you want the other speakers
