EMMA ReezaFRATzitz Review

Thanks to Johtosotku & Pierre for pointing me in the right direction :) First I bought this pedal for $225 w 2nd day shipping from Steve's Music Center. Service was fantastic and they delivered just as planned. I would recommend this seller.

First things first. Amps used: Marshall JVM completely clean & Koch Twintone clean channel. Then OD1 on JVM and OD1 on Twintone. Guitars used: EJ strat & Charvel San Dimas w JB & 59.

Controls from left to right: Level, Tone, Bias & Gain

Tone control isn't dramatic but works as expected. The bias control is the key to using the pedal. Left to right makes the sound thicker and thicker. All the way clockwise opens the drive up and makes it very thick. I made my EJ strat single coils sound like humbuckers. With humbuckers the bias control can get too thick. I don't like the way it sounds. Past 1:00 the sound becomes overbearing to me. I like the bias at 1:00 with single coils and 10:00 with humbuckers.

I was surprised to learn that it's a very Marshally sounding pedal. The gain goes from a dirty blues sound to an all out Marshall overdrive. In fact this pedal does such a great job going from a pristine clean amp to an overdriven amp. It doesn't go from a transparent overdrive to distortion. It pretty much starts off with a little hair.

Up at 9:00 it creates a nice light overdrive that reminds me of like a ZZ Top sound. At 12:00 make a great 80's type crunch that reminds me of something like RATT. Then 3:00 is in Metallica territory. All the way up gets you fantastic metal sounds. You can probably touch on some numetal but this pedal is not for that kind of sound. You're better off with a Metal Core or Metal Zone.

So that's a pretty good assessment of the drive stages w both single coils & humbuckers. Adjust the bias and tone control a little and you can get some mad harmonics! Now moving on to a driven amp. The ReezaFRITzits does and equally fantastic job on a driven amp. I love the way it blends with the amps overdrive. It's a colored sound but it's a great color. I know it's not necessarily a "metal" pedal but with a driven amp the sound gets really brutal. Move the bias down to 9:00 w humbuckers and bam! You got a fantastic heavy metal sound.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I ordered. Now I know I have found my sound. This is THE pedal I have been looking for for a long long time. It's that one pedal that you know immediately once you play it that it's THE one. Hope this review helps anyone thinking about getting one. Highly recommened!

wow man. sounds epic. and delicious. i might have to get one....

Re: EMMA ReezaFRATzitz Review

Thanks, bro.

Your observation that it sounds Marshally makes me wonder if you have tried the MI Audio Crunchbox. Please forgive me ...... I know ther have been several threads lately that touch on this, but it's easier to ask than dig.

Is there enough range in the tone control to allow a scooped metal tone?

How well is your original signal preserved in the by-pass mode?

I have tried the Crunchbox and I didn't like it. To me it sounded cheap like very thick solid state sound. Kind of muddy, but my personal opinion of course. I like the RF1 a lot better. To me it sounds very much like amp distortion.

The tone control only dips the high end of the eq curve or raises it. You can't scoop mids w the pedal alone. Through the amp it does great. The bias knob sounds mid scooped to the left and very middy to the right. So keep the tone knob at 12:00 and move the bias control all the way left. Scoop the mids on your amp a little and you got some really great scooped metal sounds.

I've been playin the pedal all day on my new JCM800. I'm loving this combo as much or more than my 1959hw! I keep my amp eq knobs all at 12:00, flat, and use the tone knob to adjust my sound. For scooped mids I just move the bias control left. I'll try to record a clip of some heavy scooped rhythm for you bro.

Re: EMMA ReezaFRATzitz Review

I've had 1 of these pedals for the past 3 years or so and have always loved it's tone.

1 thing I have noticed in that time is that it seems to be very picky about what amps it likes to work with. Used with my Carlsbro head (fat, clean, 'neutral' sound) and a cab it works great very versatile. I tried it with my Orange amp and there was no cut to the sound at all. I find the pedal to be quite bassy/dark, and the Orange is quite a dark amp to begin with, so it didn't work out too well.

My suggestion would be to try 1 with your amp before you buy, just incase :)

I'm now trying to decide which should go on my main pedalboard; ReezaFRATzitz or Crunch Box :D

The V2 Crunch Box has an internal trim pot to adjust the "presence" of the pedal to suit different amps. I bought mine used fro $80.00.....lot of bang for the buck.

So far I have used it on the following amps with fantastic results:

Marshall JVM 205
Marshall 1959hw
Marshall JCM800
Laney TT50
Budda Superdrive II
Matchless Chieftain
Fender Twin

If I had to choose between the Crunchbox & RF1 it would be the RF1 any day of the week! But like the bro said try one, and if you can't try one buy one and sell it if you don't like it.

Re: EMMA ReezaFRATzitz Review

I already have the V2 Crunch Box, I just need to decide which I like best to go on my main board :D

The other will be my heavy OD sound on my 2nd smaller pedalboard :)

Re: EMMA ReezaFRATzitz Review

Well, I believe the CB is true by-pass and the RF-1 is not .... if that makes any difference to you, Brow.

My main pedalboard is all true bypass, apart from an MI Audio Boost N' Buff 2nd inline (after the wah) to keep the signal level up to go through everything else I have on there.

The 2nd board is mainly BOSS and modded Ibanez stuff, which are all buffered, so I may put the RF1 on ther to keep everything the same.

I need to try them both out on the main board and see how they go.
