i'm aware that mesa uses english-made celestion vintage 30s and they also offer 4x12 cabinets in two sizes; one is traditional and one is oversized. i want one because of the high quality build of the speakers and cabinets but what are the pros and cons of each style/size of cabinets?

I don't like Celestion/Mesa V30s, and do not care where they are manufactured. In fact, I don't like regular V30s as well. On the other hand, I really like Celestion/Marshall V30s regardless of where they are produced... The older the better...

I like these cabs a lot. Don't forget they make 212 versions, a horizontal and a vertical; and some V30 112s too. Mesa has some of the best cabinetry in the industry.
The big 412 recto cabs have the massive low end that Rectos are famous for. The smaller Traditional cab is more Marshally, with a tighter more focused bottom-end, that doesn't go quite as deep.
Give the Mesa customer service a call...I'm sure they would be happy to help you choose the right cab for your music.

I have a Mesa Trad. size and it can handle just as much lowed as the Standard oversized version. The main difference is that the Trad. size tracks faster. Some will call it tighter, but it more of a response thing. Your notes are clear, more immediate and percise sounding.
Also, I like the Mesa V30's better thann the regular Celestion versions. They are smoother and less spikey in the upper mids and treble freq.
I do use both versions though, because I like both, and know how to use V30's properly and effectively with amps.

Where they are made is not the difference, it is the Mesa specs that are. Celestion used a different speaker for the Mesa cabs.
That being said, the oversized cab will have more low end. Wither or not that is a good thing is really up to you. Once mans low end is anothers flabby.

Not quite...
Unless something has recently changed, the Mesa (and Heritage) speakers are still assembled in the UK plant. The frames however, are stamped in the Chinese plant (as are all Celestion frames) since 2003 (I believe).
