entertaining thoughts of trading my valveking for a speakerless ac15

super rad stuff

Skaforlifeologist
here's the deal. one of my co-workers has got an AC15 from the era when korg started reissuing them, he says it's about 10 years old. from what i understand, all it needs are a speaker and a knob, otherwise it functions fine.

he wants to trade a blonde fender super champ XD for it, which basically i would just sell my valveking for me at this point would be pretty much a straight trade with a bit of legwork involved.

what do you guys think? personally, i really like the idea, and already have a couple speakers in mind. while the valveking is cool, it doesn't do the mid/low-gainy-clean thing thing very well which is something that i feel is something i really want to be a part of the sounds i use.

Before doing anything, I'd go check it out. Plug it into a working speaker (even if you just hook it into the speaker in the VK) to make sure it actually works, and theres no weird issues with it. If it turns out its totally ok, then thats a pretty decent trade. But it'd kinda suck for you to go through all the trouble of trading yer VK, and acquiring a super champ xd, only to find out the AC15 is all ****ed up.

that's what i'm thinking too. i might just try to straight out buy it from him if it is working. on the other hand, he's also got an AC50 combo that is all put together that he's willing to part for $400, so there's that too...but it still won't do those in-between dirty-cleans i want. i figure i'll most likely head over to his place and check it out when i get a chance.

Are you able to buy the AC straight up? Cuz the VK is going to be a hard sell and even harder to find a buyer. Now the AC can do the dirty clean tones your after, it's all in your guitar. Gain up the clean and roll back the guitar's volume. There's nothing wrong with a good slightly dirty pedal infront of it ala BluesBreaker from Marshall or Blues Driver from Boss.

Those AC50s are actually sweet. I would get that over the AC15.

i talked to him and he said i could just buy it for the price of the amp he wants. as far as that dirty-clean sound goes... the VK can do a dirty-clean, but not with the kind of tone i want. it's too dark/muddy like that.

yea, the ac50 is pretty sweet. i remember wanting one right when i found out about them, only to see them be discontinued a month later. we'll see though, because the ac50 would be a lot more money that i kinda don't have. i really love what it does though... dangit hunter!

i spent an hour at work playing through a current model with a greenback for about an hour with various guitars, along with my pedalboard. conclusion is that i NEED THIS AMP!!!!! so now i play the waiting game with trying to flip my current amp for the cash to fund the vox. woooh! i'll probably end up getting the WGS equivalent of a greenback(the green beret, i believe). it'll all work out. yea. :smokin:
