Suhr Aldrich is in! My thoughts

One of the big debates with JB type pickups is if they are actually bright. The brightness you hear in a JB is the upper mids, not the treble. I assume Aldriches are the same way
I was speaking to a member from another forum who makes Tone Nerd Pickups. He mentioned the Aldrich has a less aggressive Q factor to the resonant peak than the JB. I think I remember reading the resonant peak of the Aldrich is also slightly higher up than the JB, so that means less upper mid pokey-ness but more open highs (and lows).

In the grand scheme of things, though, yeah. It's still a very mid-forward pickup with tons of high mid cut. Just not as much as the JB.

No with the Aldrich, it's actually treble lol

It's just not as much as, say, a Custom

To me, it's both high mids and a little bit of treble, but it's nowhere near as much or as high of a frequency as a '59B. You're right, though. I mentined in my review it's kind of in between a JB and a Custom 5, just leaning a whole lot more towards JB than Custom 5.

from that clip: aldrich for me!
some nice highs up top and cleaner mids.
Don't hear any highs with the JB, just a bit too much annoying high mids.
I did have a cold sounding guitar where the JB actually sounded great!
Might actually try the suhr stuff after this. Didn't know it was less output...

Thanks for listening!

Yeah, I found it susprising it was actually less output. I guess that's another lesson for me and for the internetz that DCR does not equal output

They sound wonderful in many hands. Just not mine.
Yeah, if you hate the JB, you're more than likely not gonna like the Aldrich. It's not a 1:1 clone, but it's still very much an upper-mid focused A5 highly overwound kinda deal as well.

It's also very dependant on the rest of your rig. I like Rectos and 5150's. For me, I don't love how the smooth-ish attack and stuffy lower mids of the JB get along with a Recto either. I can make it work, but I much prefer other pickups with Rectos. I love it with 5150's, though.

I honestly preferred the aggressiveness of the Aldrich over the Ant JB.

But I love the Distortion, so...
Yeah, I'd say 50% of why the Aldrich came out more aggressive in that clip is the pickup itself, but 50% is that guitar sounds like that. I love that guitar's natural tone.
