Epi Classic mod into a Dirty Fingers - sort of...thoughts?

My first post so pre-apologies for my inevitable faux pas.

Actually I was looking for info from this forum for help on this but by the time my registration cleared to post I'd finished.

Here goes:

So, I picked up a Epi LP plustop pro FX - with the Floyd, and the pups were crap. Had a 490R around so put that in the neck (4 wire so the split works) (you probably knew but I had to learn that the height adjustment screws are different from Gib to Epi so had to deal with that) but was stuck for the bridge. Couldn't figure out what to get that would have more oomph after search here, listening to samples, etc.

Read about changing magnets which seemed promising but might be a dead end.

In a moment of frustrated inspiration, I thought I'd try something. So, I took apart the Epi neck pup, took out the magnet. Disassembled the bridge as well and placed the neck pickup on top of the bridge pickup, giving me a twofer. Double magnet should double the power (or at least help) - right? :)

Well, first try I didn't know better and matched the N and S, which is what it wanted to do, figuring that's how we made stronger magnets in 6th grade. Put it all back together and figured I'd messed up -very weak sound. So, took it all back apart and reversed the top magnet. Had to kind of sneak it in because it was floating and wanted to slip out. Turns out there is enough room for two - you can still tighten the baseplate with the screws.

Anyway - after much, much other drama finally got things settled. Happened by Home depot so picked up a cheap multimeter. Sure enough, now the 490R reads 7.5 and the 'new' Frankenclassic reads 13.4. Somewhere around a 500T/dirtyfingers. Changed the caps while I was in there too. Anyway, just plugged in. Sure enough getting serious output from the bridge. Will probably put in a treble bleed since I need to adjust volume down. Don't know yet if it's good or what to do with it (too tired by this point to get into it) but figured I share since its kind of a fun little hack. If you have any input on things love to hear. Thanks. (tried to post pics but doesn't seem to work)

Update: Got to finally play it this morning and it screams. May not be legit, and I'm sure the sound is un-nuanced, but it's very similar to the 498T in my other LP and I saved $100. Plus, it was fun to do. Anyone else do something similar? Any advice? Thx.

The double magnet will not have changed the K reading.......which simply tells you how much resistance the wire has. Output is measure in volts, and is based on your magnet strength (hence your change) and the mass of the wire in the pickup.
