Epi Les Paul for $2 800.00 any one ?

Re: Epi Les Paul for $2 800.00 any one ?

That's not a vanilla Epi Les Paul though. It's a fairly impressive recreation of the Jimmy Page custom Les Paul. A lot of work must have went into that. That said, it must be a bit overpriced because I saw this same listing a few months ago, going for about the same price.

Maybe he puts things up at 4x the price they're worth and waits for people to offer half what he's asking?

I have one of these right here. I think I'll put it up for $125 and undercut him by $100. :D

I'll sell any of you guys my EPi Birdseye classic with Aceman Timewarp Vintage pickup mods for a cool thousand. I'll even throw in a decent gig bag. Seriously.

Re: Epi Les Paul for $2 800.00 any one ?

That vendor appears regularly on eBay UK. He offers a variety of recreations of signature, Custom Shop and "relic" instruments. For example, his Andy Summers replica Tele costs a fraction of the Fender Custom Shop model - assuming that you can even find one on this side of the Atlantic Ocean.

The members of this forum take an interest in pickup changes, wiring mods and finishing. Not everyone else does. Hence, there is a market for those unofficial replicas.

Re: Epi Les Paul for $2 800.00 any one ?

I appreciate that the price is for the custom work and not the fact that it's an Epi, but the original was a Gibson, so even from a recreation standpoint, it's overtly imperfect. If that guy really does this on a regular basis, then I'm surprised he went with an Epi for the recreation and is charging that much for it. In the inauthentic signature guitar market, he has to compete with these cheap Chinese counterfeit knockoffs http://huayun-guitars.com/ that only cost $200 - $300 and have a correct looking head stock. Who knows how they play, but they cost a tenth of the price.

I bet half of the "relicing" on that Epi was originally because the guy bought it used to save more cash just to charge a higher price... And just watch how since on there the guy talked about how the mid pickup was out of phase on accident on Page's guitar, it'll accidently be in phase here... I'd get a china knockoff and replace the pickups instead of that $2900 Epi. Hmm. $600 or $2900. Have I become cynical yet? Lol
Those "Chibsons" are basically Epiphones with Gibson on the top. Pretty sure they come from the same factory...

No they arent just epis with the gibson logos and headstock. Not even close. If you get to look at once close up they have tons of errors that dont appear on epis. Ive been to the epi factory in qingdao it really only makes epis. I know atleast some of the fakes are coming out of chengdu.

If you get to handle on up close they are pretty evident. They only look good from 10 feet away on a youtube video

Re: Epi Les Paul for $2 800.00 any one ?

Sorry I was ignorant, I just know of many imports from various brands being made all in the same factory and assumed this was the case with the knockoffs. Never handled a knockoff Gibson up close to notice. Lesson learned.

Re: Epi Les Paul for $2 800.00 any one ?

I also suspect that some of the dirt cheap knock offs share resources with the official imports, because I've seen MIJ Fenders, unique to Fender Japan, and then a knockoff that had identical appointments to that cheaper, unique MIJ, and not a more expensive MIA Fender model as you'd expect.

I also think it's funny that so many of those counterfeit / Chinese replicas are highly distinctive signature models, like the SRV #1. It says something about the kind of people who buy them.

Only knockoff I ever thought about getting was a knockoff of a Gibson 70s Iron Cross
